Hiyaz =)
Sorry for posting again i couldn't see my post in the list so i thought maybe a new post would be easier to find for people willing to help, hope thats ok??
I need to upgrade RAM, PSU, Graphics card.
My current pc specs are...
Link: http://tinyurl.com/2o268y

What i found.. (on my budget)

RAM ~ 4gig from crucial, they said it was compat so this shouldnt be a prob.

PSU ~ OCZ StealthXStream 600W Gamers PSU
linky.. http://tinyurl.com/2j5bs6
Would this be ok to put into my pc? do the job and such? and would it fit in my case or are they all pretty much the same? (sorry for silly questions, never installed before)

Graphix Card ~ Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB PCI-E
linky.. http://tinyurl.com/2j76y4
I think Jam said before this is a good card the x1950 pro for my budget of around £100 gbp, but i would need a new psu hence me wanting to upgrade that too =) anyway will this be decent?

RAM ~ Should be fine, crucial has a compat tester!
PSU ~ What i'm worried about, never installed before =\
Graphics ~ I think should be ok but opinions welcome!!
Thnx everyone and sorry for the newb-ish questions reguarding psu!
Cheers~ Hannah xoxoxoxoxo

Look for a Radeon HD3850...you should be able to find one for about the same price.

PSUs are easy to replace. There's just the 4 mounting screws & connecting up all the plugs.

Found this:

If this would work that would be awesome, just the fact of if that psu would be compatible and fit inside my case remains now.. any ideas??
Thank you!

So pcie x16 2.0 cards such as HD 3850 will work fine in my pcie x16 mobo your saying right?
I looked up the toms hardware graph before =D impressive comparison!
I'm still lost with this PSU though, i looked in the ati site and it recommended gxs series of the OCZ psu's but the one i was looking at is sxs but runs at 600w anyway, not sure if that still makes it ok??!
I'm feeling more confident on installing a psu now, i just need to find the right one that will fit in my case and do what i need.
Does the psu link i gave meet me requirements / size etc? as in will it fit in the case and do what i need with the right connectors etc for the HD 3850?
Sorry i'm prob driving you mad! it's just a big investment for me and i dont wanna balls it up!! hehe
Thank you in advance =)

I don't know what case you have but all standard ATX PSUs are the same size. If you're concerned, you can check the dimensions against the ATX12V guide...see chapter 4, pages 30-31:

And if you intend to buy a new psu, you should pay attention to the warranty.

you could also open your case up, and look at your PSU.

it should look something like this:
http://www.slcentral.com/ahanix-dbo...

And if you read the information on the side of the PSU (hopefully it has some)

you could post it here, and we could probably look it up and tell you if the dimensions match and what not.

btw Jam great catch on the graphics card.

oh and is 4 gigs of RAM really necessary? What operating system are you using?
Windows XP 32bit isn't going to be able to address more than 3.5GB.
and you'll have to do a registry hack to let an individual program address more than 2GBs

oh and the PSU seems a bit spendy. that 430W I linked earlier was able to easily power my dads system which will be similar to yours.

he has a Pentium Extreme Edition 840 (3.2GHz)
7800GTX
2GB RAM
I think 3 or 4 Hard Drives
and an internal watercooling system

it powered it all, and stable. this was after his 650W one failed. (the 430W was mine).

here is the link again if you wanna have a look. frick, nm cant find it anywhere shipping to UK, Amazon had it for US, sorry :(
(lol I hope I didnt get your hopes up or anything, oh well the info is there for someone else to use I guess)

the one you have is nice though, just maybe a bit overkill.

never hurts to overkill with the PSU though.

Good luck!

Thanks again Bolshevik! On the PSU thing i was thinkin' the same its a little overkill but will save time if i need more things later right!? so i'm tryin' to go with that approach.
I'll check the PSU sticker and write it all down and post today for you, i know it has one i wrote it all down before but lost it lol!
The 4gig of RAM is also the same as the PSU idea.. getting it now in one go to save time later for when i upgrade to Vista (when it works a little better!) etc etc.
so far i'm going with..
Graphics: http://tinyurl.com/2uuvvb
RAM: (Crucial.com checked for me 4gig option)
PSU: http://tinyurl.com/2j5bs6
But will post the info on the sticker on the PSU that i currently have for you guys to look at, thanks so much for helping and putting up with my questions :)
