Hey,
I'm thinking of getting a new heatsink+fan for my new graphics card Geforce 8800GT (when it comes) But I am wondering what would be a good one that fits that card. And what's a good thermal paste to use?
Same question applys to my CPU, except I definitely need a new one since my CPU temp is going pretty high.
Also, currently I'm running Crysis with my 7900 GTX on medium settings and I get 80C, I went to high settings and my GPU overheated and shutdown my comp. Though I don't get anymore then 57C temperature on BF2142 1280x1024 all high settings with that card..
Do you think the new 8800GT will run cooler, and not overheat playing Crysis on 1280x1024 high settings? If not I will go ahead and get the aftermarket cooler for it.
For cleaning the CPU I need a lint free wipe, do you know where I could get some? (Newegg perferrably, but I couldn't find any on there) And I couldn't find any at my local stores. I live in US.
With video cards like the 8800 series and the stock cooler(which are pretty good for stock), I think you'll average around 50C-60C depending on your rooms temperature.
The best GPU heatsinks.. you're gonna have to look it up, I haven't really been up to date with those. VGA Silencer is known for its great cooling + quiet fan, so you might wanna google that and see the reviews. Of course if you want the best temperatures you might have to resort to Water Cooling.
The best thermal paste to use is no doubt Arctic Silver 5.

The only reasons why someone would take a brand new gpu highend type of card and replace the stock heatsink and fan would be for extreme overclocking and the people that do that are mostly benchmark testers.
I have no idea why you would want to do this like jam said. It makes no sense whatsoever The stock heatsink and fan on those cards run good as is and if you were thinking about doing some extreme overclock on it, why? The card is plenty fast enough. It's not like this is a 2 1/2 year old card, it just came out!
If you end up messing something up, don't bother to come back here and ask us how to fix it.

A lot of people/enthusiasts enjoy overclocking. I have a friend that does it often, just to see how far he can push hardware, while still being Orthos and Memtest stable. It's a common hobby for computer enthusiasts.
