Ok...basically I need advice about graphics cards. I bought the sims 2 a while ago and its not running properly. Ive been advised to buy a new one (128mb I think) but I've got a pretty tight budget and I'm not sure how to go about it. I've been looking on ebay.co.uk but everythings all very confusing and all the sellers give almost no information or WAY too much. Theres all different kinds and models and before I had this problem I didnt even know what a graphics card was XD
I'm running windows XP, ive got an intel pentium 4 2.6 ghz processor, 510 mb ram and an intel graphics controller (yes, I know thats a problem). I'm really only interested in a grphics card that will run ts2 well, because I don't really play any other computer games.
Thanks in advance for any replies :)

I'm sorry if this question has been answered already but I'm really really not understanding any of it.

Recommended video cards (and the more video memory the better):

* ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
* nVidia GeForce 4 or FX series cards

I'm not sure if u need a high end card like these, but these are the recommended cards for sims 2. U can probably get by with something a little less expensive. If u have teh game, help me out.

Hello there,

Ahhh yes, I remember back when I first installed Serious Sam and it wouldn't run well on my Nvidia TnT 2 card. I knew absolutely nothing about graphics cards, and Croteam's support suggested a powerful video card like a "Geforce 2" :-)

Anyways, I know what your feeling, I went through the same thing. There's actually quite a variety of video cards that would complement your system quite well.

Check out this link for information specific to system requirements and the sims 2:

An ATI Radeon 9600, 9800 Pro or conversly,
An Nvidia Geforce 4ti, FX 5600, FX 5900 would probably fit the bill, depending on your budget.

Best of luck!

If your real tight on budget i would go for a Geforce 4 TI4200. But if you can throw down another 20-30 bucks You can pick up a 9600 Pro which has DX9 support.

Thanks again...I looked into it and probably a raedon 9600 or a geforce 4 is best suited for me, I can get one for £60-£80 (new). Someone i know suggested a GeForce FX5900 Ultra but they are way too expensive. Would a 128mb graphics card be ok for my computer or do I need a 256mb?

You don't NEED it but it certainly is an option. You see, games are finally starting to utilize 256 MB of video memory. So it might actually be a good idea. The other thing to look out for is that 256 MB of video memory doesn't necessarily mean better. A 9800 Pro 128 Meg will devistate an FX5200 256 Meg. What you really need to watch for is the clock speeds and the technologies involved.

hi there,

first, how much money are you willing to spend for a video card? GF4 has already been obsoleted for years you might consider getting a DX9 card. Circuit city has ATi 9600XT w/ 256MB for $180 and FX5900SE for $170. Those card will last your rig for another year...then again the Sims 2 is not a gfx card demanding game...happy shopping ;)

Hey everyone.. I have the Sims 2 and it goes SUPER slow.. like 10 minuts to get from one house to another. So me and my sister decided to put it on the lap top to see if maybe it will go faster.. the laptop is Windows 98. I put the CD in and it wont run or anything so I go to My Computer and click on the D and C hard drive but nothing happens and when I click D it says theres an error and it cant open it now so retry or cancel, and it doesnt work. I also lost the cover to my Sims 2 where it says to go to start, run, then type in bla bla.. can somebody help me to figure out what to type in on "Run"???? PLEASE I AM DESPRATE. I got this game the day it came out and have played it twice because of its slowness! Please help me.. you can email me at Hyperchick312@sbcglobal.net
