Ok I was thinking about going nuts. I have an extremly large budget so please enlighten me if this will last me the next 4 years cuz I HATE buying computer parts everytime a new game comes out. I just want opinions and options. This setup will cost me over 7 thousand canadian which is about 5 thousand american.

Intel pentium 4 3.4 GHZ with HT tech extreme edition 800 FSB

windows xp professional edition

4GB dual channel DDR2 Ram

250GB free upgraded SATA Hard Drive (could've went big bucks for 800 gb but really what the hell am I gonna do with 800 gb hard drive?)

3.5 floppy drive with 256mb USB Memory Key

Dual Drives: 48X CD-RW Drive + 16X DVD+/- CD-RW with double layer write capable

20.1 2005WFP Dell Ultrasharp wide-screen flat panel (I'm really debating if this bitch is worth 1 thousand.)

256MB PCI-Exrpress ATI Radeon X850 XT PE

Dell 5650 5.1 Surround Sound speakers with subwoofer

And other various objects i really dont need but wanted to buy anyway like cordless opti mouse and keyboard and programs I will probably need for what I do.

Post your opinion, feedback, better prices keeping in mind looking at my computer specs i wanna buy, and you can hate on the comp all you want and tell me what i should buy seriously cuz Dell I havent had a problem with yet.

Norman

If you can afford to spend $5000.00 every four years on a new system, go for it.

0. ABS
1. Alienware
2. Falcon Northwest
3. Velocity Micro
4. Voodoo PC
5. GamePC

I would consider that alienware computer if it was a flat panel and had surround sound speakers.... cuz otherwise its about the same price as the dell

There is no way you can buy a computer today that will be able to run games that will come out 4 years from now. The industry just moves too fast. Four years ago the best processor you could buy was a 1.7 P4.

You could probably pay half as much and get a computer that is 90% as fast as a $5000 computer. Then you could save the other half to buy a new computer in 2 years.

In fact the Pentium 4 560 is less than 1/2 the price as the P4 3.4 EE (approx $400 vs $1000) and in benchmarks it was usually only a few percentage points behind the 3.4 EE - and it actually beat it in some!

I'm confused, are you looking to buy a pre-configured rig, or build your own?

If buying pre-built, I'd go with alienware or something that designs rigs specifically for gaming (and i'd suggest going with an AMD processor). Dell computers are nice, well-rounded machines but if you're looking for gaming, and you've got a lot of money to spend, spend it somewhere where the bucks can really shine.

If you're building, you've got way more options. If i had a large budget, i'd probably go with an ASUS "A8N-SLI Deluxe" mobo. On there you could stick an AMD FX-55 processor (fastest cpu on the market for gaming) and for graphics you could use not one but two(count them, TWO) GeForce 6800 Ultras (PCI-Express). That'd be about half your budget right there, but you'd have the most expensive parts purchased. Plus room to upgrade (cuz that mobo is badass).

just some food for thought. thought you'd like to know ALL your options.

If it's a gaming machine then you just gotta go with AMD64 and a SLI capable mobo!

have a look at this...

Unless your current computer sucks i would recommend waiting until 2006 when dual core CPU's will be available and who knows they might even have dual core GPU's. If you decide to get the system you posted upgrade the hard disks to Western digital raptors 74Gb i'm sure you can afford 4 of them!!!

Abit KV8 MAX-3
AMD 64 3200+ 754
1Gb Giel PC3200 RAM
HIS X800 XT PE
2xWD Raptor 36Gb
some power supply
Audigy 2 ZS

I see...but the reason it costs so much is cuz of the flat panel and cordless opti mouse and keyboard and the surround sound speakers. otherwise it would be like 3500 american just for the tower. What i really am thinking about is the power of it. I dont care for price. Where can i get a power house computer? And I would like to build my own I know my way around computers but people these days just keep telling me this and that is faster. Please post more opinions

dont care for price eh? alienware makes great gaming comps. go to alienware.com check out the alx desktops. dual graphics cards would be very sweet. Check it out. The more expensive the add on, the better it performs!

Athlon 64's make better gaming CPU's though.

Currently, Athlon 64's beat intel chips by up to 25% at the same price points benchmarking in Half Life 2. If it were me, I'd look at something with Athlon 64 if you can find something good quality with one.
