I recently reinstalled Baldur's Gate (the DVD version) to replay it. The install went fine yadda yadda.
When I went to create a new character, the text field to type in the name immediately filled up with 9's. That is, as soon as the little window that says "Character Name" popped up, 9's zoomed across the text field until it was full.
I tried to delete them, but they kept getting replaced. It's acting as if the 9 key is stuck...but it's not (as you can see, I'm perfectly able to type out this post).
I'm a pretty advanced user and am usually the one answering the questions here on computing.net so if anyone has any suggestions at all, please don't hesitate to offer them up.
I should mention, this doesn't happen in any other game or program.
Thanks in advance.
Alert me after you respond otherwise I'll forget to come back.

I just tried to reinstall it (again) and the problem is still there.

that sounds like a bug in the game have you tried a reformat
Just a suggetion as I have never come across this before either

wow, haven't played that in a long time.
Have you tried the compatibility modes (98 or 2000) i found this solved my character creation problems when trying to play BG2 on XP Home. Might be the same for BG1.

I actually got it working. I just restart the game a few times and it finally worked. Weird...
