Has anyone had the problem where you put a cd in your cd or dvd drive, try to start the program, the cd spins, but your cursor turns into a spinning cd icon, the game won't start and you can't open your dvd/cd drive unless you restart your pc???

I had much the same problem but found it was only a dirty disc and the drive got stuck in a loop trying to read it. Have you tried cleaning the disc or trying another one?

Yeah, it's a brand new disc, GTA Vice City. I've seen a lot of posts about this in other forums, but never had a solution.

Are your HDDs IDE (PATA) or SATA? How do you have your IDE devices configured?

I just posted this answer to a different question:

"I never put 2 optical drives on the same cable, or 2 HDDs on the same cable...& if I'm installing a burner, I always make it the 2ndary master. Also, I never use cable select. I've never encountered any probs when configuring IDE devices this way"

It could be a bad disk. That's happened to me several times. My PC was fine, but the people who put the CD together screwed it up bad during copying. There were no physical defects to the CD itself, but the data on it was corrupt. Test your system with another CD; if it works fine, try to get a replacement GTA cd.
