Comment: Graphics: GeForce Ti4200 128mb DirectX 9.0b Some people have reported the following problem before but I don't think anyone came up with a solution. DirectX reports failure at step 10 (Secondary buffer): HRESULT = 0x8878001e (Control not available). Have completely rebuilt my PC and reinstalled all latest drivers with no success. Same issue occurs under previous versions of DirectX. Some games work fine (Call of Duty) in terms of sound but Max Payne 2 and H&D2 have no sound at all. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Reply: (edit)Unless DX9 is a requirement for your games, get rid of it...your video card doesn't support it. There are several DX uninstallers available for download, unistall DX9 & replace it with DX8.1. Knowing what motherboard (chipset?) & sound card you have would help. There are known compatibility probs with VIA chipsets & Soundblaster cards
