I have an old DOS box computer that I am currently using to run older model games. The computer I am writing this from is NOT the DOS box, it has no internet connection.

The DOS box has an EnsonIQ Audio Legacy Device. The computer says it is all there and working properly. However, the sound card software says the card does not exist. My games sense it for a second, but then cannot use it or find it.
It says it can emulate a Soundblaster Pro. I used all possible settings and fooled around with it a bunch in MS-DOS mode as well. I know how to tweak a hardware device, but I'm lost now.

The computer has some games that use Soundblasters for digital sound.
Is my computer crazy? I'm fairly certain that the EnsonIQ device exists. The computer knows about it. Why are my games unable to use it?

This computer runs Windows 95.

PLEASE HELP!

Do you see a command after the starting W95 splash screen comes on like the following:

SET BLASTER=A220 I=5 D=1 T=4

If that's not present, and if a string loading the legacy device driver isn't there either, I would remove the current drivers, then re-install them again.

You could also try removing/clean contacts/reseating the soundboard as well.

Is there anywhere I can get the software for the Legacy device? I run Windows 95. The computer was given to me, and is used. I don't have the original software.

Do I need to actually remove the sound device from the computer?

You'll need more info on your soundcard for that. Typically, almost all soundcards have some support for legacy included in their drivers, Ensoniq should especially be no different. You could check inside and see if there are any identifying numbers, and check on the creative website, since I believe, they own Ensoniq.

Driver downloads are here, choose from sound blaster/16 bit.

You shouldn't have to resort to removing the soundcard, but it couldn't hurt. The aforementioned cleaning contacts and such.

Sorry I didn't see this again sooner, it's difficult to sort through these forums.

If can't run with sound in your old computer and give up trying you can try VDMSOUND http://ntvdm.cjb.net/ to run your old games in your newer PC.
