Sound card problems in games

Hi im having a problem with the game sounds.When i play a game when i play music and videos on the computer it runs fine but when i play a game it is choppy and echos. I ran a directx test and a error came up on sound said problem getting extra sound info rusult code=0x8878000a. Could someone help please thank you very much. the problem started when i updated win98 i think.
i have a advance ac'97 audio via686/8231 video card.

Install the latest sound card drivers. Reboot, and run dxdiag again and see if the problem is fixed.

Make sure you have at least the minimum Microsoft DirectX version required for the video drivers you are using - this may get higher as the drivers are updated - also check for that in the game requirements.

im looking for the drivers to my avance ac'97 via686/8231 sound card. im sorry but im not a tech in computers i can get around but not very knowledgable. could someone explain and i could do it i have directx 9.o also.

(i had same probs) U need this driver:

Realtek AC97 Audio
Driver 5.10.0.5370
Dated 13.11.2003

Driverguide.com should find it.

Also make sure u have Dx 9.b not Dx 9.0
