PS: my girlfreind said she will drop $300.00 to help me out so im about set and ready to take the plunge as so they say....ill wait and see waht you all think. i dont want to mess up on this one. to pricey to buy something i dont need lol."to be a rebel in veiw of contemporary society does not in itself lower the value of a man, but instead he awakens us to something wich war ought to be waged against"

"2. ASPIRE CF12S 120mm Cooling Fan ( im getting 3 of these fans)""
Why? According to the listed specs that case only supports two fans (it comes with one)! It states that it supports 60mm fans, but looking at the photos it appears that the rear fan mount has screw holes for at least 3 different sizes (I would guess the largest is a 120mm). However, I don't see more than one set of screw holes for the front fan and it shows a picture with the included 60mm fan installed there. You might be able to cram in a 120mm fan in it's place (maybe), but where would you put the third. It's possible, but I don't take you for an advanced case modder.
Other than that everything looks good, but I'd spend a few dollars more and get a DVD burner. They have several for under $40.
Michael J

lol i wouldnt get 3 120mm fans if i didnt know how to mod...i could put 4 in their easy, and i just might depending on how well the temps do. i thought about the DVD burner but ill see...id like to have one :-)
Note: heres and example i always put one of the 120mm fans right in front of the computer on top of the cd drive bay blowing air in...very good idea by the way. then ill put a 120mm on the back like you said pushing air out. then i can use the third 120mm fan and put it on the side of the case. i dont use fans smaller than 120mm in my cases they are pointless fans 120mm fans always get the job done. and perhaps if i go overboard ill drill in a slot for the fourth 120mm fan on top of the case blowing down all across the Mobo. giving it something like this.
120mm blowing down

lol had to do the picture. but yea somethin like that it works ive down it before. my case never went above 40c. anyways i hope that answeres yourfan question. :-)imassuming this theory will work for this new setup.
"to be a rebel in veiw of contemporary society does not in itself lower the value of a man, but instead he awakens us to something wich war ought to be waged against"

nevermind it didnt paste the picture the way i thought it would....forums design wouldnt alow it....
"to be a rebel in veiw of contemporary society does not in itself lower the value of a man, but instead he awakens us to something wich war ought to be waged against"

1. & 2. Cases are a matter of personal preference. I generally try to buy them locally though...$16 shipping kinda kills the deal, plus I like to examine them. And why buy a case that you'll immediately have to mod? The stock perforations for the rear exhaust fan will restrict the airflow, & where do you plan on putting 2 more 120mm fans?
3. The board you chose uses the plain vanilla nF4 chipset. The nF4 Ultra would be a better choice, or nF4 SLi if you ever intend to run 2 video cards.
4. no comment
5. you could do better
6. it's your money
7. way too expensive & apparently you don't care about dual channel mode?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145440
8. Maxtor???
9. why just a plain DVD-ROM? And beige in your black case?

I don't have any advice on the rig but...
"my girlfreind said she will drop $300.00 to help me out"
Marry her and make lots of babies.-SN

As suggested above, dump the DVD-ROM, for about $10.00 more you can get a dual-layer DVD burner.
Your HDD is a little too small for me. There's a new 200GB Maxtor at the url below for $70.00, though it's not SATA and I personally prefer Seagate over Maxtor, they are now one anyway.
http://www.pricegrabber.com/user_sales_getprod.php?masterid=655162&lot_id=2781164

I agree.
Dump the DVD-ROM, and get a DVD burner for $20 more. Lite On makes one with software to burn DVD's for $40.
I wouldn't buy a maxtor either, and don't screw yourself on the size. A 160 gig drive is $20 more than an 80 gig. Don't short change yourself.
And personally, I wonder if it's enough. I currently have 80 gigs worth of data in my system. Granted, I have a 15 gig mp3 collection, but game wise I probably don't have nearly the amount of games installed as most gamers do.
The OCZ memory is overpriced and very much not worth it.
Get an Nforce4 Ultra chipset board, NOT a plain NForce4. The LANParty series includes extra features you may not need or want, included rounded cables, etc. It also has a ton of overclocking options within the BIOS that are very advanced. The Infinity series, which costs less, can still overclock well, but doesn't have those additional advanced features. Your call which, but NForce4 Ultra chipset should be considered a must.
"i wouldnt get 3 120mm fans if i didnt know how to mod..."
You don't need to do this for cooling. I have in my system an Athlon 64 3000 Venice OC'ed from 1.8GHz to 2.2GHz, RAM is full 250MHz (500DDR), a 7800GT, a DVD burner, a DVD reader, 3 hard drives, plus an X-Fi sound card and a TV Tuner.
Current temp: 35C
Underload: 40-42CThis is with stock cooling.
Corn chips are no place for a mighty warrior!

alright thanks for the input...im tryin...i only piked that memory cause dfi recommened it..wahts the cheapest ram i can get for a dfi board thats compatiable...cause everybody knows that dfi boards are picky with ram...ill look for the hard drive you guys mentioned...."to be a rebel in veiw of contemporary society does not in itself lower the value of a man, but instead he awakens us to something wich war ought to be waged against"

I may have missed the last post but is there any specific reason why you are buying an Opteron CPU???
AMD Athlon64 3500+
1024MB 512x2 Dual Channel Corsair TwinX
Coolermaster Wavemaster
120GB Seagate SATA HDD
Gecube X800XT Platinum
Logitch 5.1 Surround
LG 16x Dual Layer DVD
Countle

"wahts the cheapest ram i can get for a dfi board thats compatiable...cause everybody knows that dfi boards are picky with ram"
DFI and cheap memory tends to butt heads and from what I've read Corsair does indeed have a history of incompatibility issues with DFI. I'll suggest you avoid Corsair at all cost, if you have to spend a bit more, do it, it'll save you a lot of aggravation along the way.
Here's a shortlist of DC kits for you, it dont matter if it's OCZ, Kingston or Mushkin.

Go to the DFI website, look for the model you're thinking of buying, & check the list of recommended RAM. Here's the list of the nF4 Ultra Infinity...you'll find Corsair makes the list, but it's the performance RAM, not the ValueSelect:
http://tinyurl.com/ejpvn

"I may have missed the last post but is there any specific reason why you are buying an Opteron CPU???"
Because it's got 1M cache per core at a mere $330. Overclocking demon.
Enough said. :-)
Corn chips are no place for a mighty warrior!

yep well said hero sphyco, lol im getting that Opteron 165, socket 939 processor cause im gonna OC it to 2.2ghz.or 2.4 its one of the best dual core for the money on the market from company reviews...go to AMD.com and read about the opteron 165 yourself...that processor could easily beat the 4800 toledo from waht ive examined mainly because the opteron has a toledo core and can switch between 32 bit and 64 bit flawlessly.
im getting the 7800GT cause its in my budget range. so is the processor.
ill look for a NForce 4 ultra board. with some hopefully cheaper ram. and ill get a DVD Burner i wanted one anyways but i could go eaither way its not like its an emrgency. i thought that thermaltake 500watt would cut it but i guess not. im gonna look at tiger direct for a hard drive.
"to be a rebel in veiw of contemporary society does not in itself lower the value of a man, but instead he awakens us to something wich war ought to be waged against"

Comment: I got the motherboard that i listed mainly because it supports Dual Core and the others dont. And the DFI boards that have the Nforce 4 ultra chipset dosent support Dual Core thats why i didnt get one and just went with the one i listed...should of included that in my last post...i just woke up bare with me :-)
"to be a rebel in veiw of contemporary society does not in itself lower the value of a man, but instead he awakens us to something wich war ought to be waged against"

Check the DFI site for the board you're interested in....
http://www.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_product_spec_details_r_us.jsp?PRODUCT_ID=3612&CATEGORY_TYPE=LP&SITE=NA

looks like the motherboard i wouldnt mind havin Jam but newegg.com says it dosent have Dual Core support...and DFI says it does im lost...probably another newegg typo. But seriously thoue wahts so wrong with the motherboard i have listed up on top of this page...i dont see anything wrong and theirs a reveiwer who has a Opteron 165 on that same Mobo and he says its overclokin easy and workin well no problems....just level with me :-) i re-did the list here it is again hope the changes are alright...i think it's lookin much better now...

Below is the board I recommended from your previous post. It is an NF4-Ultra board and it's only couple dollars more.
DFI LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
Model #: LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultr
Item #: N82E16813136152 $122.99Now this URL even offers a killer deal on that board and I know jam would pull the trigger based on his prior motherboard purchases from that section, but I've only bought one motherboard from there and I did not get an I/O bracket with it.
Apart from that, all other items gotten from that section including video cards have been flawless and new AFAICT.
Also the DFI Opteron support issue is more on the legal side that actual compatibility restraint mandated by AMD, since the Opteron are being marketed solely for server system and not workstation motherboards.
It kinda sounds idiosyncratic from my POV, since a server can be a delegated responsibility on an individual computer. In order words I can turn this PC into a server tommorrow if I so choose to without any special equipment but I can understand AMD is doing that from a business perspective.
When Google isn't your best pal

"looks like the motherboard i wouldnt mind havin Jam but newegg.com says it dosent have Dual Core support...and DFI says it does im lost...probably another newegg typo."
Trust DFI. They made the motherboard, not newegg.
"I see nothing wrong with this Mobo."
I suggest you read up on the difference between NForce4 and NForce4 Ultra chipsets.

Sony burners have not really impressed me that much anyway and also from the above I'm not excited about that DW-G120A drive. Granted it's got DVD-RAM functionality but that feature never became mainstream anyway, so you won't be missing anything if you get a better drive and it happens to be without DVD-RAM support. I'd recommend a DL burner from NEC, like the ND-4550A or ND-4551A.
"Good power supply, but it's overkill."I agree, but we may not be saying the same in a few years. 500W PSU are steadily becoming mainstream even though bigger does not automatically imply better but a lot odd-ball computer problems are now being diagnosed and traced back to dirty or insufficient power from the PSU.
At the same time a 400W PSU with clean rails from a decent manufacturer will outperform a 550W el-cheapo anyday, also knowing fully well that PSU's tend to be less efficient when the required power output is significantly lower than the max rating, I'd still buy that 600W over the 500W that I just bought if it was at the same $90.00 as opposed to $140.00
This is going to be one heck of a system when it is fully assembled, goodluck and keep us posted.

K im switching out the DVD Burner drive, and reserching more into the DFI Boards...so your telling me all DFI NForce 4 Ultra boards will support Dual Core.
other than that im keeping everything the same so only changes im making to my last list i posted will be the DVD drive and DFI Mobo.
Once i get things cleared up and finished it should only take me a few weeks to get all the parts and about 6 hours to build it....well i got all the time in the world to build it no need to rush....i agree thou it will be a very powerfull machine....later down the road i will probably add another 2X 512mb of HyperX ram to have a total of 2 gig ram.
k check back later...ill do some research....thank you for all your help guys, and helping me pick out parts for a killer system :-)
Intresting note: This custom built comp that you guys are helping me with would cost you over $2,000 to buy it retail if it was actually for sale....and im building it for around $1,130 tops. Not Bad. I got a job makin $11.00 bucks and hour so...yea its not really hurting me.
"to be a rebel in veiw of contemporary society does not in itself lower the value of a man, but instead he awakens us to something wich war ought to be waged against"

If you read between the lines, what you are being told is that the Opteron 165 should run on the LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra, there are others on the net that have done it.
Goodluck again.

lol okay...thats the gist i was reciving...thanks for clearing that up lol.
heres the mobo i switched out over the one that you said was bad.

Model #: ND-3550A BK RT
Item #: N82E16827152055 $43.99
So are these replacements good. i like that NForce4 ultra board better than the one i had so good thing i swaped them out.Well i think im done now ill wait for the all clear signal from you guys lol. remeber the mobo and DVD Drive was the only thing i swaped out in the listing. and yes im keeping that 600watt monster powersupply. it will no doubt last for a long time and and give me plenty of power :-)
"to be a rebel in veiw of contemporary society does not in itself lower the value of a man, but instead he awakens us to something wich war ought to be waged against"

Just curious but when i get that DFI NForce4 Ultra board...How the hell do you get that Karajan audio madule onto the mobo cause im lost on why they didnt just put it onto the motherboard. lol..
thanks again...that was about all the questions i had i know how to hook up everything else. just waiting for your okay's :-)
"to be a rebel in veiw of contemporary society does not in itself lower the value of a man, but instead he awakens us to something wich war ought to be waged against"

A friend of mine has that ultra-d mobo and the karajan audio is easy to install. You just have to insert a very small "card" into the mobo. It's easy you'll get it right away.
BTW, when you are gaming, remember to download latest patches, since some are being optimized for dual core, like call of duty 2 and quake 4, and it's much faster!
And yeah, that system looks good to me. It's probably the best you can do for the price.
Free

"heres the mobo i switched out over the one that you said was bad."
It's not a matter of good vs bad, it was more like better vs best......LOL
Common man, it's just a tiny PCB that plugs into the motherboard and its receptable is conspicuously marked AUDIO for easy identification.
YOU CAN DO IT !!!

Bottom line is if DFI says the Ultra-D supports the Opteron 165, the mobo supports the Opteron 165. And besides anyway, the Ultra-D is a superior mobo. No way DFI would make the lesser mobo be compatible and the Ultra-D not.
"I agree, but we may not be saying the same in a few years. 500W PSU are steadily becoming mainstream even though bigger does not automatically imply better but a lot odd-ball computer problems are now being diagnosed and traced back to dirty or insufficient power from the PSU."
I'm saying a good 550W would last as long as he has that mobo and cost $40 less at least. When he replaces the mobo, any PSU he buys today won't carry over as new standards for interconnects to the mobo will have come about.
"later down the road i will probably add another 2X 512mb of HyperX ram to have a total of 2 gig ram."
If that's how you feel, you may want to just do it now. Since DDR memory will cease to be made soon as production continues to shift to DDR2, expected DDR to begin increasing in price. Plus, it would leave 2 slots open in case you need to move to 4GB.

yea i here ya hero thats waht i was gonna do was buy a 1 gig stick so i would have room for 3 more gigs but lol everybody is so aginst solid gig stiks....but anyways...ill keep the setup i got now and will order soon enough. but to the comment you maid about the connection advances and diferent connectors...thats why they make adapters....so i will be okay. :-)
you guys were great i sincerly apreciate the help..
i know i could figure out the karajan adio module if i had the board in front of me but i figure id ask anyways. its hard as hell to tell from the pictures where it goes lol
