You appear to have the goods, but we have no idea how you have everything configured.

Why all the HDD's? I won't get into a lecture about RAID-0, it's been covered MANY times before. Hopefully you understand the risks & shortcomings.

Why is there no PSU supply listed? It's probably THE most important piece of hardware in a system, but it seems it's always the most overlooked.

Ok i am removing the Raid-0 tonight hate it with a passion, im a very impatient person and the hard drives which are both raptor 10,000's should be succient enough on there own until i can manage a solid state drive.

Jam the reason i left the power supply out is because as i was writing whats in the rig i realised i might have answered my own question.

The powersupply is an enermax infini 720

i didnt build the system with the psu in it, i was running a much slower rig and this came up for a bargain price of £600 with a couple of 19" monitors

but when i try and select my ram at 800mhz the whole screen pixelises so that in it self should have been a headsup about the power but heyit was late or infact i could be wrong. (When i looked into running 4gb in SLI i read that when all 4 slots are full that a)you have to downclock the memory and b) it would only show 3gb of it, however it shows 4gb ???

Sorry about all the typing errors, i have so many hard drives because the 2 raptors are in raid and the 3x SATA total = 700gb 1x 300 2x 200gb

one is for films and games
one is for pictures and software
one is for all my work stuff and my websites

hi

just a thought with all those drives running is there some throughput issue there (other than load on psu) causing a bottleneck? eg data throughput ?
and is it a software raid?

Also you have a top mobo paired with a mediocre cpu (oc 'd) but it sounds like your pc is used heavily so maybe a cpu with a bigger cache would be advisable.

Rig is Constantly on and very heavily used for web design, pc repairs and maintenance via a vpn connection/teamviewer and for gaming :) You would never believe i had a wife 3 kids and a 60 hour a week job lol...

The Raid is done via the motherboard and throughput issue, i would imagine not as the only drive i have my program files on is my OS Drive C: the others are merely reference drives..

I understand im lacking in processor power but thought that the OC would compensate, not taking into consideration cache but just dont want to fall into the trap of buying a bigger processor for no apparent reason.....

Reformatting tonight and tidying up my rig, putting XP 64 on and will try without the other drives and also will remove raid (which is causing me more trouble than its worth, dont recommend it at all).

Just to add a note to the cooling of my rig i have a Big Typhoon CPU Cooler, 4x 4" fans 2x 3" Fans and front vents (Armour LCS Case)

Oh and im running Dual Screens soon to be tri

If you're running the CPU at 400MHz frequency & the RAM at 333MHz, you're obviously losing performance right there. The CPU:DRAM ratio should be 1:1 & since you have DDR2-800, you *should* be able to pull it off. I'm guessing that the BIOS isn't configured correctly.

re: I just dont want to fall into the trap of buying a bigger processor for no apparent reason.....
erm i did , heres my take ; (fully understand the home situation, & frag me petrol just gone up again £1.12 litre it was only £1.09 last sat.

ok probably going to open a can of worms here but... i did buy bigger, heres why n what happened for interest, humour, flaming etc :) yes i know theres not really a comparison but.. it may help, grab a tea/coffee / beer/meds/ hankies to laugh/cry into

2006/7 was loaded£££, had at the time expensive 680i pc & E6600 2.4 later @ oc 3 ghz due to (game)crysis & saber told me so :D, happy days.
An unfortunate event occured: plastic pin snapped on hsf, smoke & no chip, ty intel #!#heads.
hsf design department need a pull through with a fir tree.

bought a E2140 OC to 2.66 333 fsb 2 gig ram 667 ram asrock v cheapo pc,
no crysis.
just for larfs swapped the E2140 into old pc oc'd @ 2.6 ghz just happy that the old pc bios lit up, still no crysis.
even oc the cpu was underpowered.

2008 cpu prices drop! so bought a E6750@ stock 2.66 1333 fsb (at half price i paid for 6600)
hmmm crysis sort of plays still not good, month later, prices drop & vista now cheap to buy

here i am & "My Rig seems slower than i had thought" oh shoot.

(c.net Inquisitors put your heated irons away note i didnt activate vista just was playing around with it, pretty isnt it)

May08:cpu prices drop more
cheapo pc gets the E6750 vista happy performance score of 5 & all is well in eula land.

own pc gets E6780, 'My Rig seems faster' hoo rah, E2140 ornament on book shelf.
so over 6 months and varying price drops & watch n wait ive now got it it sussed.
may be an alternative route to go ? just dont do it in as many steps as i did

ps sold the vista pc, new owner dosnt play games & i dont like vista.
moral of the story, sod the cost if it makes life /you happy in Your case & productive make it payback on work.

regards,

you can stop laughing now :) cost me a packet, btw it was still cheaper than taking it to a pc repair just to test out my own kit simply because at the time 775 cpu was so new no one had one i could get my hands on.
reading spec for your mobo
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?m...
it can take 1333 fsb cpu.
