Comment:

I got the Geforce 6800 GT and thought it would be the daddy of all video cards, but on games like Painkiller, Far cry and many others the frame rate is unusually slow. I assume with a card like this i could run any game on top settings with no problem. Whats even more unusual is that when i lower the resolution and settings, the frame jumping and problems are still happening.
I can only get about 30-50 fps on far cry at 1024/780. I have all the latest drivers aswel. Its like the cards stuck in 1st gear or somthing.

Any help would be great :)

Is it just me or have I heard that same complaint before? I believe one person said they contacted tech support of the manufaturer, they told him it was due to unstable drivers.....I dunno....personally I wouldn't pay that much for a video card anyways, but to each their own....

is your motherboard 8x agp? that could be something... check your power supply and see if your card is getting enough power from it... i dont know much about the power usages of these things, but a 450-500 PSU is probably required. oh, check the temperature aswell... if its too hot, it wont run well

Ive got a 450 w psu where the temperature is fine. Motherboards a matsonic ms8137c, but i checked and its only 4x agp not 8x like you mentioned. Is an 8x motherboard definately necessary??

with only 2.4GHz CPU you are limited by your CPU where the 6800 GT is overkill...I get about 70Fps on Far Cry w/ all setting maxed out...i'd say upgrade your mobo and cpu to at least P4 3.0Ghz or A64 3000+...then you'll see GF 6800 GT perfroms whole lot better than what you're experiencing now...

A64 3000+ w/ TT Silent Boost
MSI K8T-Neo FIS2R
512MB Simpletech PC3500 Nitro
ATi X800 Pro
120GB IBM Desktar 7200 Rpm
Raidmax case w/ 320PSU

Driver version 61.76 from the nvidia site. If you know of a better/more recent driver let us know :)

Try downloading Rivatuner and go to Power Users and force the clock speeds. Next check for any overheating. One guy said he dramatically reduced the temps just by taking the cover off(The GPU FAN Sticker).

Also try setting your AGP Aperture in BIOS to 256mb. And mess with the AGP Voltages as well(NOT TOO HIGH)

k? thx.

I was having poor performance with Far Cry dispite the fact that I had plenty of power. Then I went to the performance settings for Win XP and made sure that the top two boxes were checked for programs. After that everything was ok. Right click my computer. Choose advanced. Choose performance. Choose settings. Chose advanced. I know it's a long shot, but give it a try. Gary

You must be joking, you can get serious damn good performance with this kick ass video card, I only have a 128MB Geforce 4 and games like far cry and painkillers plays superb in 1024x768 using medium detail.

You need to understand how to set up the bios and your drivers settings for your video card drivers and the game. First off you dont have a good mobo.....upgrade to a Asus or Abit motherboard. To achieve amazing results you would need at least:

a mobo that supports agp 8x,ddr2
3Ghz cpu (800fsb),512MB of ddr2

set your bios for your card to read the proper settings like the memory at 256MB, 8x AGP and drivers use the latest detonator drivers and set the vsync off and maybe antialiasing too to keep faster performance.
