Have a relative with a slow operating p/c issue. Packard Bell label. Six years old. Has been using AOL for some time until just recently a change was made to sbc-dsl. Self install. Was told that now the p/c is running super slow, and not much better than before with the 56k setup. As far as I know the temp files have been dumped, scan disk, and a defrag also has been done. I personally have not seen or looked at it myself. Has had printer issues also, uninstalled, and re-installed with a two week run of better operation, but its starting to act up again especially with his Excel program...... I personally think a reformat, and fresh start is in order.. Has not been checked ofr Spywarw as far as I know.. But I believe his system resources are being ate up somewhere. Any thoughts ?? Thanks

Have you tried removing your Dial-Up Adapter in System Devices? You may want to check for any spywares & viruses, and make sure that you've installed all of the Windows Updates.

six years old ??? hmmm

I think it is time for a new PC. I dont think that the cpu speed can handle any more applications or even enternet connection with todays advance web features such as flash and java...

Actually that was synopsis I was leaning to also. I think for todays applications anything less than gig is useless. I have 4 desktops running here on a router..And a fifth which is a laptop. The less machine is a Pent 3, 800MHz cpu, (HP), and it runs fine.. Never have had a problem. Strangely enough the problem is telling someone a change of equipment is in order.. Thanks for the feedback Guys... I wish there was something else I could tell him...

well thats true

i ran a 7year old computer with a P90Mhz (yes megahertz!) with 32MB ram, it was on 100% ram load so thats probably true, ran slower than a pocket calculator

aol are goons anyway.
i phoned their free "technical line" to see if they had any new numbers cos all the others were busy (or most likely broken) And the guy told me it was because i only had 32mb ram.......sod all to do with the problem!!!

he felt my wrath!!!!! lol poor bloke
