Rather than upgrade from Win98SE, I decided to do a clean install of WinXP Home on an empty partition - thus a duel boot system. All my son's Sims games were previously installed on the Win98SE. No big deal when the computer's network connection was hardwired. He could surf the net or play his games. I've recently installed a wireless card and the card is only XP-compatable.
I'd like to do away with 98SE on this computer. Because I'm tired of having to reboot to get to the network. But, I really don't want to have to sit and reinstall every single Sims, Sims2, SimCity and other EA game disks again.
I've tried copying and editing registry keys and folders from 98SE into XP. But some games don't work.
EA Support hasn't been helpful - they say to reinstall everything and then copy his 98SE My Docs' EA folder over the one installed in XP. When I asked if XP's File and Setting Transfer Wizard would work I got the same response - reinstall everything.
I don't see how the game could tell if the registry keys were added by it's installation program instead of my registry imports.
Does anyone know if there's some 'hidden' registry entry or folder that I'm missing?

well you would have to reinstall everything, windows xp is an entirely different OS than 98se, when things install it saves certain settings for your OS. you can back up game saves and such, but you will have to reinstall them.
