Sims 3 shuts down my computer!

Specs: Windows 7
I used to be able to play my Sims 3 game on my old Vista laptop, but now I have a computer with windows 7. The game was running fine on the new computer until I decided to try and download content from the sims3 website. Now the game shuts down my computer 5 minutes into the game, and I don't really know if I can fix this problem. I'm not really sure how to access my system information (I'm not sure where to find find it), but I did try using 'Can You Run It?', and it told me my computer exceeded the minimal requirements. What could be causing my computer to shut down?

Could be a million things. First thing I suggest doing is making sure your drivers are up to date, especially the graphics drivers. Find out what kind of video card you have by goign to your system information. This can be found in your control panel (My Computer > Control Pannel). Once you know what kind of video card you have, go to the manufacturers website and download the latest drivers.
