sims 3 not working after installing expansion

May 21, 2013 at 14:09:25
Specs: Windows XP
I recently recieved The Sims 3 and quite a few expansion packs for it, I installed The Sims 3 at first, and began playing, it worked just fine, once I installed the first of the expansions(The Sims 3: World Adventures) It would no longer run. I tried leaving the expansion disc in my computer to play, but that didn't work, I tried leaving the core disc in my computer to play, that didn't work either. The only thing it tells me is 'There was an error during startup. Please see the Log for more details.' However upon searching for log in my computer entirely(all folders, Sims related and not) it does not exist. I've tried opening from both the icon for Sims 3, and for Sims 3 World Adventures, they both have the same outcome no matter the disc in the disc drive.

Do you have "show hidden files & folders" enabled? Do you have "hide file extensions" disabled? Did you do a search for *.log?

searching for *.log came up with nothing sims related
as for showing hidden files and folders and hiding file extensions, how would I set it to enabled and disabled(respectively)
I'm sorry, I usually don't have problems in which I would need to know this information so I never really figured it out.
