Specs: Windows XP
- okay, so i just bought the Sims 2 yesterday.
ive been tryinq to install it since then and the
computer wont read the disc. it keeps telling
me to 'insert disc into drive' when the cd is in
there. i read someones answer that says i
need a dvd-rom drive, but my computer only
says 'cd-dom drive' when i qo to 'my
computers'. what should i do?

sounds like you MAY have stumbled across the solution already: Verify whether the disk you have is a CD or a DVD - it should say right on the disk itself. And if your drive says CD on the front but not DVD, it is not a DVD reader. They look similar, but they're totally different.

If you determine that your installation media Sims disk is a DVD and you only have a CD drive, your only option is to acquire a DVD drive. You can usually find decent ones for about $30 though, and they are worth having.

Just to add, if your system didn't come with a DVD drive, it's possible that the specs are too low to run SIMS 2. Did you check the game's minimum system requirements & compare them to your system specs *before* you bought the game?
