Subject: should I upgrade?OS: Vista home premiumCPU/Ram: Amd atholon 64 4000+Model/Manufacturer: custom |
Comment: My current comp specs are, Amd atholon 64 4000+ (s939)2gb of corsair ram, x1950xt 256mb video card, and a radmax 530 watt powersupply. I am thinking about buying a new mobo and cpu 2 get the most performance out of my x1950xt, because it still is a good card. I was thinking about buying a amd x2 6000+ sAM2 and 2gbs of corsair ram and a asus motherboard. I dont kno if should upgrade or not because ive been told that that cpu will go out of date real fast. Tell me what you think. Im willing to spend about 275 dollars

Reply: (edit)The 1st thing you should do is get a decent power supply. What motherboard do you have? Is it based on an nForce4 chipset? The AM2 CPUs don't benefit much from DDR2 RAM so you may be better holding on to what you have for a while longer. You could always go for a S939 A64 X2 but you might not be happy with the results. It would depend on what you primarily use your system for: http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2...

Reply: (edit)well some of the games i cant run all the way maxed anymore, like css is getting alittle choppy, portal and tf2 are like that 2. I think my powersupply is fine, but my cpu is holding everything else back. my mobo is an asus A8V-SE. I also have a 19inch widescreen monitor btw. I also use my computer for burning DVDs, converting dvds and every other day stuff

Reply: (edit)"I think my powersupply is fine" It's a Raidmax, right? Maybe they've gotten better, but they used to be junk. "my mobo is an asus A8V-SE" Do you mean A8V-E SE? http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?m... It's a VIA based board so it wasn't exactly the best choice, but at least it's based on the K8T890 chipset & has a working PCI/PCI-e lock. Have you tried overclocking? Maybe 2.75GHz (11 x 250) w/RAM set at DDR333 (resulting at 197MHz) & HT multi at 4x?
