I'm using an HP laptop, and I'd like to run games like HL2 and The Sims 2 on my integrated Mobility Radeon 9000. Now, I have the option in my BIOS of setting shared video memory to anywhere between 16 and 128, each setting double the previous. I have 512 MB total.
For 3d games, what should I set it to for best performance? Should I give the Radeon all 128MB, or is it better to stick to 64MB and free up the general-purpose memory for non-video tasks?
(Upgrades are for the moment not financially feasible, this is a stop-gap until they are.)

What did you expect to upgrade? You may be able to add more RAM, but there's nothing you can do about the crappy Radeon 9000. As for the shared memory setting...the more you use for the integrated video, the less you'll have for the system. All you can do is experiment.
