Second External Power Supply

Specs: Windows Vista
Is there a reason that adding a second external power supply just for new power hungry video cards would not work. (running power cables from external power supply into case just to video card only)

I'm sure it can be done but I don't know why you would want 2 presumably crappy PSUs rather than one good one?

How would you wire up the external one to turn on? The power button on the case is wired thru the motherboard so you'd either have to come up with a way to tap into it or you'd have to wire up a 2nd power switch.

yeah and it gets uglier from there: even with 2 power switches, it'd probably be bad for the machine unless you hit them both at the EXACT same time, otherwise the system is booting with insufficient graphics power, or the graphics card is receiving power without the system being on. neither is very good for the hardware.

do what Jam said: get a single, quality, power supply. post links here before making purchases, so people can tear your idea apart and tell you what you should do instead =)
