Hi, I want to play my games online, but my dad does not alow me to do port-forwarding.
So my question is: "If i turn off my router firewall, will i then be able to host and join without any problems" ?
I know it isnt that safe, but i just want to know if it'd work.
I got an 4-port router from Conceptronic

If he's not gonna let you do port forwarding, then why on earth would he let you turn the firewall off?! Port forwarding is putting a small hole in the firewall. Turning the firewall off means no firewall.

Besides anyway, how are you going to turn the firewall off? NAT is effectively your firewall, and it's what allows you to share your internet connection. Do you mean put your machine in a DMZ?

Quite frankly, it's pretty dumb to do that. It's beyond merely "isn't that safe".

If you do it, make sure you have a very good software firewall, and I wouldn't just use the Windows XP built in one, either. Kerio makes a good one that's free.

But again, that's a very bad idea.

LOL, I answered your question. You may want to actually understand how routers work before getting snippy with someone who attempted to help.

Hint...

Tell me how you're proposing to turn the firewall off first.
