Hi guys, I need to replace a ATI Radeon 9800 pro which i broke... I don't really have the money to buy another one, but I want a decent card. I was looking at the Nvidia 5200 or 5500 series which look good and are much cheaper. People say they can play doom 3 and HL2 with full graphics which a 5500, but it only costs about £40, what would be the main difference between one of these and a ATI 9800? Or should i wait for the 9800 to drop in price? Cheers Alex

That Radeon's worthless, even new. Yes, go for at least an FX 5600 if you want to play those games. Just stay away from the FX 5700, not many games support it(I don't know why), because my 5700LE has difficulty with Direct3D games(like Halo). Think flashing and random matrix code-like green textures splattered all over everything. Yeah, that's mine. I should've gotten a FX 5800, it's way faster than any cruddy rAdEoN.
