Subject: Refresh rate... OS: XP CPU/Ram: p4 + 1gb
|
Comment: When I play Quake 3 Arena, I pressed the on screen monitior controls and I saw the refresh rate was 60hz when playing Q3. When I am not playing Q3 the refresh rate is 85hz. 85hz is the reccomended rate for my monitor, plus 60hz hurts my eyes. How can I make it so that it will be 85hz when playing Quake? Thanks.

Reply: (edit)I currently have a VisionTek XTASY 9200 SE 128mb, PCI. But in less than a week I am going to get a VisionTek XTASY 9200 256mb, PCI (I dont have AGP). How will this info help, I thought I would just have to make some change to the Q3 ini file. If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.

Reply: (edit)unholy ,the refresh rate for your monitor is being overroad by video drivers. as far as Q3 is concerned do a search in your q3config.cfg for r_displayrefresh and thats what Q3 is actually running at. Reply: (edit)plyduster, I could not find a refresh rate oveerride in my video card options, which options are you talking about? Custom Built, there was no r_displayrefresh in my q3config.cfg file. I did a search for it but did not find it. Should I add it, and if so, how sould I type it in for 85hz if I do add it. Thank you for your help. If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.

Reply: (edit)oops sorry unholy the r_displayrefresh command only applys to rocket arena 3 wich is a mod for Q3 1.32.I thought it was a variable for Q3 1.32 but its not, just RA3.Sorry for misleading you.As for your video driver refresh rate right click on desktop and goto properties. Click settings tab. Click advanced. Click monitor tab. The bottom box should reflect your current refresh rate (wich you can change). If it doesn't, go to ati website and download the most current catalyst radeon video card driver. Reply: (edit)I have the refresh rate in there at 85hz, and it is 85hz when not playing games, but when the game starts the refresh rate changes to 60hz, then back to 85hz when I quit the game. BTW, this DOSE NOT happen in UT2K4, but it dose happen in Ultimate Doom SE, Doom II, Final Doom, Quake, Quake II, and Quake III Arena. If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.
