I'm having troubles installing Command & Conquer:Red Alert - Counterstrike on Windows XP Home.

I have the original Red Alert installed and working with the patch: Compatibility Mode=Win95 & Thipx32.dll patch.
The original Red Alert is in C:\westwood\ra95

When I put in the Counterstrike 95 CD, it gives me the error about being windows 5.1, so I enabled Windows 95 compatibility mode on every .exe file on the CD. (all the setup files and game files)

Now when I try to install, the installer loads (it takes forever), then says
"unable to load setup files.."

see http://mjohn911.tekcities.com/images/error_message.jpg

Anybody know what's going on?

i thought mini-requirement for cs is win98. and why did you enable win95 compatibility mode on CS. if i remember correctly, CS came out in 1999.

wait, i thought you are talking about CS. i see. C&C:CS. well, you can copy all the files from the dics to one folder, then run setup from that folder. try this.

It was the Setup95 version.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert Counterstrike.
Counterstrike was the first expansion pack to Red Alert, and I think it was designed to install but add to the game. (The first game had to be installed for Counterstrike to work).

According to Wikipedia, the game came out in March 1997. Aftermath came out in September 1997. Ironically, both games have the same problem. I tried enabling Win98/me compatibility mode, and I got the same error message. Does anyone here have the game?

As far as copying the files to the same folder, this is the directory structure of the CD:

Should I copy all the files from the different folders into the root folder?

just copy all of them in a same folder, if you install, you can choose another folder to install to.

I found that the method doesn't work.

I also found out that the problem is with the main.mix file of the counterstrike and aftermath CD. When I start the game with either of the counterstrike or aftermath CD's in, all I get is a black screen and the computer almost locks up. And, the installers won't install because it says it cannot locate all the files. I did some testing and found out these files were the main.mix. Something's wrong with them, but I can't tell how to fix it.
