Comment:

I have Red Alert 2 ,and i am running on WinXP pro.Whenever i try running Ra2.exe i see a black screen and then bounce back to windows.
My machine is decent, and can handle 3d games just fine.I can play 3d games for hours without a problem. i am having an NVIDIA Ge-force FX 5700LE.I also installed Win 2000 to run along with Xp and tried running the game with the win2000,which Red Alert seems to be compatible, but still the same problem. What should i do?

Note that i tried the same game under my brothers computer and the game worked fine! no black screens!

Why dont you stop being an and give us some time.

Red alert 2 is NOT a good game, i dont know why you are playing it.

Compatability mode should make it work. Try installing windows service pack 2, that resolves some compatability mode issues, then, if it dosent work after that, check the boxes in the compatability mode window, and click 'em.

If it still dosent work, you will have to download the patch, which should be found it you search on google.

And if it dosent work after that, flick it out the window, or return it to the shop you bought it from.

Youre welcome.

hello i am also trying to run red alert 2 over a LAN my flatmate has just got a laptop and we can now file share...but not having any luck with RA2....when trying to select network from the game menu it just flicks back to the original menu....and when i go to the network options it says IPX not found and gives two blank boxes for destination address and socket no. i read some of the other comments on this forum and one said about enabling IPX from the local connections properties box...but i cant find this......we are both running XP home edition.any ideas?

Ashley, take my advice earlier in the topic. You might have to upgrade to service pack 2, and if you already use SP2, get your flatmate to install it.

Its either that or download the patch, as far as i know there was a multiplayer patch released quite a while ago.

kyriakos....i have discovered that you need to set up the computers to txp....you do this by going into the settings of your network card and installing txp instead of the thp/ip whatever its normally set on ....both computers should now be able to get to the network screen on the start menu of the game ....i am now stuck on getting them to see each other and join a game....there is a really good web page explaining this/www.planetcnc.com/features/techtroopers/networkGuide/

intel810....where do i get the sp2...i only have dial up by the way and not broad band ...though there is a broad band cafe across the road ....

thanks for your help.

Well, if you have dial up, your screwd, but you can use the broadband cafe, its not too big a file, but still waaay to big for dial up

You can download SP2 here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

Post back with the results.
