Could you please reccomend me some ram, preferably not too expensive, to go with an Asus p5wd2 premium and a Pentium D 805 for good overclocking potential. Thanks in advance.

I will definitely consider the patriot but i am
in the uk so newegg is definitely not an option for me. As the board is natively ddr2 800 will i be losing performance by not choosing ddr2 800 ram?

You're only running a 533MHz FSB CPU in a board that supports up to 1066MHz FSB & you're concerned about whether your RAM will be able to keep up?

Well i was hoping to get the fsb past 533mhz. And if i get it near 800mhz i was wondering if it would be better to have 800mhz ram.

Try www.newegg.com they have the best deals and great costomer service. The Corsair xms might go out of range for many people including me, but is still a nice thing to get.

I would still think of maxing out the ram or getting more ram before overclocking. Overclocking obiously KILL the ram slowly or fast depending on how much you do.

I think you're confused by Intels "quad-pumping" of the FSB. Your 533FSB CPU actually runs at 133MHz. DDR2-800 RAM runs at 400MHz. I doubt you're gonna crank your D 805 up to 8.0GHz. Even if you got DDR2-533 which runs at 266MHz, I doubt you'll get your CPU up to 5.3GHz...lol

You might wanna have a look at this article from Tom's Hardware:

"You might be inclined to believe that the higher overclocking potential of DDR2 RAM might translate into measurable performance gains, but sadly, that's not necessarily true. In real-world situations, a P4 system running DDR2-533 is only slightly faster than one running DDR400. Likewise, stepping up to DDR2-667 produces less effect than you might desire."

Hmmmm...I may have been too hasty with the above. Admittedly, Intel systems are not my thing.

Did you miss the fact that the OP is in the U.K?

"Overclocking obiously KILL the ram slowly or fast depending on how much you do."

Can you also back this up with some facts?
