Subject: Random crashes while playing 3D gamOS: Windows XP Professional SCPU/Ram: Athlon XP 2700+ - 2x256 M |
Comment: My specs are as follows: ASUS A7N8X-X (1009 Rev) Chieftec ATX 350W AMD Athlon XP 2700+ 2x256 MB DDR (333 MHz) CHAINTECH GeForce FX 6800 128MB (Tweaked 71.20 drivers) Realtek AC'97 onBoard WD 80GB (7200rpm - 8MB cache) + WD 20 GB What my problem is that while I run 3D games, the computer will lockup randomly. At first the screen freezes but there is sound, after a while sound keeps repeating the last 100ms again and again, and after a while sound cuts up too. Nothing works, nor Ctrl-Alt-Del or any other combination. The computer just locks up and I have to reset. Notice that nothing is overclocked. At first I thought it was a problem with the memory, but MemTest86 gave me no errors. Any ideas?

Reply: (edit)sounds like maybe something currupted your onboard sound drivers, try going into divice manager and disable the onboard sound (just as a test). if it works try updating the drivers and if none available roll back the drivers to previous version.had this happen with some games.asuming autoupdate is on it might have updated to newer drivers that are buggy. Reply: (edit)Nope, the audio is not it. I tried disabling audio through the DevMgr but the crashes are still there... Any other ideas?

Reply: (edit)It's not exactly Chaintech's drivers (the tweaked ones), I'm currently using the XtremeG 75.90 ones (just installed them), which haven't been reported to cause any trouble. I'll try them, and if the problem is still there, I'll tell you.

Reply: (edit)I have the exact same problems, and my specs are as followed. Motherboard - Foxconn- NFUK8AA (nForce 4 Ultra Chipset) HD - WD Raptor 74GB CPU - AMD 3500+ GFX Card- 6600 PSU - 520 Watt RAM - 2x 512 DDRRAM Nothing is OC'ed so I cant use that excuse, and it cant be Overheating, because my comp runs like 25 Celcius on idle. Just wondering, are your graphic cards PCIx16's? Hope we/someone can find out the answer why this happens.. What games were you playing when they started crashing like this??

Reply: (edit)I've got through this problem... But I really, and I mean REALLY, don't know how! I am now using 75.90 drivers and the latest drivers for my on-board sound card. Best bet is that the udpate fixed the problems. But another thing, and it is a good shot to try, is that I installed and used Game XP. Maybe you should try it too, I don't know. Google for it.

Reply: (edit)I am having the same problem. System: Motherboard: Abit AA8 Duramax Processor: 3.4 ghz. pentium Videocard: Radeon X800 XT 256 ram, PCI-Express Soundcard: Audigy 2 ZS, Ram: 1 gig DDR2 I am at my wit's end. I have updated my video, audio and motherboard's drivers. It freezes up anywhere between 3 minutes to an hour after I start playing. the symptoms: Freeze, after a few seconds, image becomes extremely scrambled beyond recognition. Sound normally begins looping, then after a moment, cuts out to a loud screeching, still looping, static. I have tried everything {Even tech support.} and gotten no results. It's hard to get pleasure out of a game when it keeps cutting you out! If anyone figured out a means to solving this problem, {or even what the problem IS,} let me know. Games I have experienced the freeze with: City of Heroes, Morrowind, Neverwinter nights, and a few more.
