I've had this computer for a little over four years now, with the same Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb. It's had no problems until recently when I tried to use the DVI output as my primary (and only) video output--which apparently older ATI cards were never able to do. It wouldn't boot up when I did this half the time, and when it did, I had no video. >:o So, I switched back to VGA, and since my computer has had weird issues when switching video modes (like booting up/starting games and full screen apps).

-Roughly 3/4s of the time my computer will lock up when Windows is starting at the video mode switch between the Windows XP fake load bar screen and the login screen.
-When Windows fully loads, I can only switch video modes successfully for about an hour or 4-5 times.

I've tried everything short of reformatting my hard drive and starting fresh. Come to think of it, when I switched to the DVI output the first time, I updated the drivers--I was using ATI drivers. Two days ago I ditched those for Omega drivers and it seemed to fix the problem but only for about a day.

Anyone have any other ideas than reformat?

Reformatting should be the LAST thing you do after all other possibilties have been tried.

AFAIK, the Radeon 9800 128MB did not have any issues with DVI. I have one myself & although it's not being used with my LCD anymore (moved it into my backup machine), it was previously & I didn't have to do anything special to make it work.

I would dump the Omega drivers, then run Driver Cleaner Pro to remove any stray files left behind.

Then install the ATI Catalyst 7.10 Display Driver

Hmm, I'll give that a try. Another problem I was having with official drivers was the catalyst control center, it wouldn't start and I couldn't manually repair the messed up files.

Either download & install the "driver only" version or if you wanna be able to use the Control Center, you'll have to install Microsoft .NET Framework
