Hey everyone, I just wanted to know your opinions on which card you think is a better buy. I have the Nvidia GeForce FX 5700 256MB card, but i think it has driver issues... I get all kinds of glitches and hang ups in my games and i've tried all the different drivers i could think of... I was going to go exchange it for either another Nvidia card (don't know which one yet) or get a Radeon 9600XT. I heard they are faster and better then the GeForce cards... if anyone has any input on what i should do please reply... Ohh and take a look at my system specs... I know they aren't the greatest, but shouldn't my games with either the 9600XT or 5700 run amazing still... At least at 1024*768 or even 800*600 in some cases... because right now i can't even get NHL 2004 to run properly in 800*600....

My comp is...

AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz
512MB SDRAM
Asus A7V133 Mobo AGP 4x
Maxtor 80gig HD

What PSU are you running? FX cards require a lot of power, so if you have a crappy one(300w or below), it may cause a lot of problems including hang-ups, glitches(a.k.a artifacting, white dots) and etc. Either that, or your card is defective...

9600xt is definelty a wiser choice, unless you play older games(Dx8 & below). Fx5700U seems to outperform 9600xt in most dx8 & ogl benchmarks. if you have some spare money, go for a 9800xt, you won't regret its performance...

Thanks guys, I picked up the 9600XT... it was about the same price as the 5700... so i just did a straight exchange. It's awsome... i don't experience anything even near the amount of slowdown i was getting before. Although an increase in performance where my overall comp is concerned will make the card even better. About the PSU... I thought that might have been the problem before too. The FX cards draw a lot of power, so i picked up a 420W and still had the same result... I't might have been a defective card, but i think it was just Nvidia's crappy drivers... anyway thanks again for the input...

I think its the other way around. First of all, bad drivers don't cause artifacting and hang-ups. defective cards do. nV doesn't have crappy drivers(although they have some problems with shaders/performance in games), with the latest 56.54 drivers, you can set up profiles for specific games, you can view your gpu temp. & case temp., and with coolbits.reg file you can overclock your gfx card without downloading an o/c tool. ATi on the other hand, have gfx cards that pwn, but a lot of people(like me) have experienced many problems including incompatibility etc. They are getting a little better though, but nV has by far better drivers support.

Upgrading to Radeon 9600 from GeForceFX 5700 is a VERY BAD CHOICE to make. Buy 9800 instead. ATi is not as good as nvidia in making drivers u know. FX5700 is actually good enough for a newer games. Dunno y u upgrade it, i think u got plenty on money in yr pocket maybe. Anyway, enjoy yr new card. :)

I'm not upgrading... I used the FX5700 and had too many problems with it so i returned it for the 9600XT... in other words "I exchanged it for the 9600XT"... and trust me it wasn't a bad choice at all, my benchmarks are almost 1000pts higher with the 9600XT than they were with the FX5700....
