Comment: I want a good gaming pc built like around $1800.00 to 2000 dollars. I am not sure weather to go with AMD or an Intel processor. The more reviews I read the more confused I am getting. Also, is Wester Digital a good hardrive to get, and what would be a good motherboard setup to go with the processor. I thought about either an ABS x5 gaming pc, or one from of Cyberpower INC. Anyone know if these are good? Thanks =)

Reply: (edit)Check out this site for benckmarks on these processors. http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/20020107/p42200-10.html The P4 beats the Athlon in some tests, but the Athlon XP is a better performer in most tests. I would HIGHLY reccommend an MSI motherboard with an Athlon XP processor. Athlons are cheaper and almost always faster. Make sure you get high quality name-brand DDR ram too. The quality of the ram you buy will make a big difference in your system performance. Western digital hd's are good. Ive had one for 2 years that hasn't given me any trouble. Maxtor is a good brand too. If you are doing alot of gaming, get a high powered video card like an ATI radeon 9000 or a nvidia geforce FX. If you have any questions just drop me a mail. Hope this helps!!

Reply: (edit)I would definitely use an Athlon processor. I have an Athlon XP 2000+ 1.667Ghz with 512M DDR and it blows away my brother's P4 2.2Ghz easy. And he even has a better graphics card.

Reply: (edit)Hey thankyou all for the fast replys. I guess the pentium is off my list then, and i'll go with amd when the time come for me to purchase. The 55xcd sounds good. Only one thing, I dont know what would be good for the 2nd rewriter drive? All this dvd-r-cdrw+ confuses hell outa me, and there so many difernt ones I dont know what to chose. I have heard stories that dvd drives arent as fast as the standard cd rom, is that true? Plus, I want something that will play my old cd games (ie. Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, total Annailation etc.) as well as new ones hot off the shelf. Thanks again all =)

Reply: (edit)the 2nd cd-rom u buy fo rewrite shuld be D: and if u gunna do custom, jus get a regular cd-rom mayb a 16x or sumthin. so fa, dvd rom is only 16x and cd-r is 55x so cd-r is much faster than dvd, but 16x is still very fast. Get WinDows Me,cuz it lets u play the hottest games and mostly da old ones. XP is nice too but its a big software, n it doesen't support lot of old gamez. me is da best i got one n it runs fast i only hav 733mhz too. make sure that da motherboard u get is p4 cuz it allows agp8x. agp8x is used for 8x video cards like ati radeon 9800 n geforce 4 ti , fx 550, so on. i got a 4xagp, n my video card is 8x, so my video bandwith is half good as it supposed to be so it sucks cock. gl

Reply: (edit)lol..dude windows me is the best for gaming, and people who think it sucks just don't know how to use it and keep it running smoothly. This included downloading defragmenters, anti virus softwares, freeing ram, and etc. I ACTUALLY do agree you on the AMD, becuz AMD is faster than pentium iv, but Windows Me is very easy to use and you can *tweak it more for improved graphics, and all that :) it is also VERY STABLE. Windows XP is a LARGEass software and can cause it to crash even if u got a amd 2500+ or nything like that :( . one way to keep windows me running smoothly is by going here. http://www.burzurq.com/forum/trevtweak.html :P for all those ppl who hate win me!
