Comment:

Hi I recently bought an Aopen GeForce 6600GT 128mb
graphics card to replace my old Geforce 5200. I installed
the card no problem. But when i started Doom 3 it had
loads of black squares over the graphics. It then bombed
out. I restarted my computer and i found that the startup
screen looked odd. There were blue lines down the start
up screen - (My computer is made by Advent and when it
starts there is a white screen with Advent in big letters on
it). My windows in 'windows' looked odd. There were 'blue
tinges' below any text in a white window, the desk top
looked odd almost, like I was running in 16 colours even
though i wasn't. I found out it could be the power supply
which was only 300w.

So i bought a new one and installed a Hiper 525W power
supply which is a very good power supply. I thought this
would solve the problem but when i started up, the
Advent startup screen again had blue lines down it and
the desktop and other windows look odd. After a couple
of restarts the computer won't boot up at all, it gets to the
windows screen then the screen goes black, a mouse
pointer appears then it freezes and my computer beeps
and crashes.

I have reinstalled my old Geforce 5200 and that works
fine. I have tried everything. I have looked at updating the
motherboard, a micro ATX (though not yet updated the
bios, even though the bios is pretty new anyway). I have
installed a new power supply. I have unistalled all the
drivers and renstalled them from fresh. I have even
reinstalled windows, but i still get corrupted (Advent) start
up screen and computer freezing once the 6600Gt is put
in. Does any body have any ideas? Could it be a bad
graphics card? Could it be that my motherboard can't cope
with a graphics card of this type?

just before the Advent Screen appears I get writing on a
black screen saying something like 6600GT bios etc, so
the card is being recognised, and when windows did start
up the card seemed to of been recognised within
windows.

Thanks for any help you can give (its driving me mad this
thing! ;-)

if your system was beeping at startup it means something is wrong, did it do it with the old power supply? If not you may have the new one improperly hooked up or as said it maybe a faulty card, however long shot wise, I had almost the same issue back when I bought a card, I never read nvidia's driver installation recommendations, to uninstall the old display drivers for the old hardware, so your comp has none, shut down, then boot with the new card in place and install the drivers then (basically making it a fresh install).

the curse of the faulty card shipping sticks again! it is probibly the card, make sure you have the power connector pluged up to the card. try flashing your bios to a newer bios. this may help and it may not. but more than likly it is your card.

lol buy it from ebay? because my friend has the same problem after he bought the geforce 6800 from ebay. it was seal in box, but still no guarantee was new or not. he put back the old graphic card and it works perfect, but when he put back the 6800, same problem occurs again, even on a different PC.

so IF you bought it from ebay, return this to the seller. if the seller doesnt allow, then complain this to ebay or paypal, then ebay/paypal will take the money from the seller's bank account and give back to you, but you have to ship back the item to the seller. Beware buyers. Seal in box doesnt mean is news on Ebay. there are some stores that can seal package for you.

try the card on other computer, either your 2nd pc or friend's PC, i always do that to test if its the video card problem or the pc problem. if other PC has the same problem, then you might wanna replace/return the video card. if other PC works fine with this video card, then you need find out what causes the problem between your PC and the video card.
