Hello, i've got a serious problem with UT2004. This is the only game i have a problem with.

What happens is that whenever i play the game about every thirty seconds it will be like my mouse was disconnected. The game itself doesn't seem to stagger, but its like i dont have a mouse, i still have keyboard controls, but the mouse just seems to dissappear for five seconds along with the sound going choppy as well.

I used to have a GF4 MX440 and it did the same thing, i've formatted my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled the game, i've now got a 9600XT and it still does it.

No idea what is happening. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks.

You are going to have to try a process of elimination on this one as it could be hardware or software.

Make sure you install the chipset driver from the URL below and also turn off fastwrite if you have it enabled.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_5.10.html

BTW, your hardware list was missing the PSU.

Hey sabertooth. I have a sapphire radeon 9600XT 256MB card now so that nvidia thing aint gonna help.

I have powerstip installed but not using it at the moment.

PSU is an eagle 350W and its rated at 15A on the 12V rail. Also doesn't say that my system is overclocked to 3200+ @ 205MHz FSB. Card clock settings are stock for the moment.

What next, PC mark says that fast write is enable, i'll try and disable it.

Hello there, went into the BIOS and disabled fast write and then played UT. Seemed to be going ok for 5 mins.

But then it exited and came up with this error code:

UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2004-09-02_05.02]

OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)
CPU: AuthenticAMD PentiumPro-class processor @ 2262 MHz with 1023MB RAM
Video: RADEON 9600 SERIES (6561)

General protection fault!

History: UModel::LineCheck <- CheckWithLevel <- ULevel::MultiLineCheck <- ULevel::SingleLineCheck <- LightVisibility <- GetRelevantLights <- RenderLevel <- CTF-Grassyknoll.myLevel <- FLevelSceneNode::Render <- FPlayerSceneNode::Render <- UGameEngine::Draw <- UWindowsViewport::Repaint <- UWindowsClient::Tick <- ClientTick <- UGameEngine::Tick <- Level Grassyknoll <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Realloc <- 676F4C57 0 FArray <- FArray::Realloc <- 0*2 <- FMallocWindows::Free

So no idea???? I'm guessing something to do with my hardware.

Please help.

The chipset driver was for your nForce2 motherboard and not the video card. I just now remembered you were the same person with the AXP 2500+ OC issue.

I seriously think you should get something beefier and cleaner (rails) than that el-cheapo 350W Eagle PSU which by the way has fuzzy *typo* specs.

*-3.3V / 28A* (+3.3V / 28A)

+5V / 35A

Combined PWR 330W

*+12V / 0.3A* (+12V / 16A)

*-5V / 16A* (-5V / 0.3A)

-12V / 0.8A

+5Vsb / 2A

Feature Brief Total power rating=350W

IMHO I'm sure that for $149.00, there are more prominent PSU's out there than Flower Power, however that does not mean it will not deliver.

What do you recommend? I like that PSU because you dont have 1000 of cables coming out when you dont need them, you only hook up what you want.

There are top quality ones from brands like Enermax, Tagan, Antec, Fortron (FSP), PC Power & Cooling....to select from.

Main things to look out for include:

- At least 500W (Next upgrade and beyond)

- Clean rails (Powerful +12v)

- Low Noise level

- Considerable Warranty

- 24-pin or 20+4-pin connector

- Active PFC enabled

- (+ Your additional personal preferences)

I recently upgraded the PSU in my main system from a stock 420W Raidmax case PSU to a 500W Blue Storm from FSP and I could definitely see a difference in the system's stability and performance.

Hi

lovely nickel plated shiney psu's btw no doubt illuminated as well woohoo,

anyway enough frivolity ;D Daniel0101 have you installed the upgrade fix patch for UT04? specially last one 3369.

and Sabertooth is right UT04 puts quite a strain on your graphics so 350 watt is redlining your pc, as for "SuperFlower"
read "Ennermax".... same factory in china, their latest offerings seem to be ok but your paying well over the going price for that. Get another vendor sorted.
