OK, the power whent out at my place with the computer on. when I restarted every thing seemed fine, but when I try to play any games I get an error saying "could not initialize a required audio device" I ran a test from control panel, sound devices- it said " Direct play voice setup error code 0x80150175" I did a google search on this but found nothing i could use! Also if I try to use windows media player and any programs that use audio the programs freeze. obviously it must be an audio problem but I hope someone can help, Thanks.
system specs
P4 1.7, 512 mb pc-133 ram, geforce4 TI4600, intergated sound ,windows XP.

Reply: (edit)Try re-installing your sound card. Take the card out and put it into another PCI Slot and see if that helps. Also try reinstalling DirectX Abit IS7 865PE

Reply: (edit)Have had 2 power cuts here and keeps not my PC off, have to keep reseting the BIOS each time to get it working again and it's p*****g me off try going to your sound card website and see if you can get drivers from there, if not, go to device manager, unistall the sound card, reboot and see if Windows pick it back up again, that usually works ________________________

Reply: (edit)OK thanks. I had a feeling I was going to need a new sound card. I have about $200 -$300 canadian to spend on a sound card. I want to use my computer as a recording studio. I'm using cakewalk software now. sound for gaming comes second to recording.
any recommendations on a sound card?

Look thru this site at the other cards there and see what is best for you.Somebody here posted that ncix.com is the newegg.com equivelant online store. Theres also tigerdirect canada online store.Theres a tigerdirect outlet here where i'm in south Florida U.S.A..
