With games like half-life2 and Doom3 taking years to produce, what can we expect to see in the near future?
I dont think we'll see anything new or groundbreaking for another 2-3 years, with the exception of game mods and patches.
As for me,I cant wait to experience the power of the new unreal engine but that wont be till 2006.

Yes, the Unreal 3.0 engine is damn impressive. As you say, we know about the big games years in advance these days, so it's hard to see anything technologically impressive aside from Doom III, HL 2, F.E.A.R, and Rome: Total War in the next few years.

I'm hoping gaming gets back to it's roots and concentrates on content rather than spangly visuals for the next couple of years. And with games such as Evil Genius, and Sid Meier's Pirates due soon, I'm hoping for the best.

Some people are like Slinkies?, not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

unreal ingine looks really good. yea i don't see Doom 3 extremely impressive (graphics). it will push radeon 9800pro to its limits, but it wont be as impresive as unreal ingine

It's going to push every graphics card out right now beyond its limits, as I mentioned before. The 9800 won't be able to come close to running the game with all IQ options turned all the way up!

Wow Hooner,F.E.A.R looks awesome!!I have to get it when its released!
Another great game you guys may not be aware of is S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. This game looks damn comparable to half-life2.There is also a four part demo movie which I highly suggest you check out.
heropsycho,
I'm glad you posted that link in the other thread.it really threw a new perspective in terms of graphic standards & limitations with some of these GPUs..At least with Doom3.

I know...I'm REALLY kicking myself for not going ahead with a 256M 9800 Pro when I ordered my card month or so ago. I didn't know I would be getting so many networking jobs I've been getting, so I played it conservatively.

Oh well...I may not even get Doom3 anyway. The last time id put a game out that engrossed me was Doom 2, and I don't think simply titling a game Doom 3 is gonna change that. Not to mention the fact that I've been pulling away for FPS's anyway in the last year.
