Comment: hi. ive noticed that in a lot of games i am getting sub-par (or over-par for you golfers out there) performance. In games like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and CSS, if i attempt to play with the auto detected settings, i have a not so good fps in game. I can barely play oblivion on 640x480 everything on low. My specs are below. No i have no viruses or spyware and the only thing i have running is kaspersky av and zonealarm in the background. even if i disable zone alarm it doesnt help much. thx for the help I Don't Check My PM'sPentium 4 @ 2.66 Ghz 533 Mhz FSB 1.25 Gb PC2700 RAM Nvidia Geforce 6600GT 40gb seagate hdd 160gb seagate hdd DVD Burner CD Burner Windows XP

Reply: (edit)wow looks like so many ppl have the same issue about CSS. me too. i have a high-spec PC. but CSS runs damn lag even i tried the lowest setting with only 640x480. the lag is same as 800x600. the FPS is still below 20. then i doubt its not about the video. i remember after i defragged the HD, it actually improve. My HD has so much stuffs. only 16 GB left from 250GB. reinstall the game took damn long time, espccially CSS. but it completely changed.

Reply: (edit)Devils, You have a 533MHz bus p4, and a 6600GT. Exactly what do you expect to be getting in performance in these games? The performance you describe for Oblivion is about what I'd expect. I will say zonealarm is not the best firewall to use as far as resource consumption goes. You may want to try Kerio Personal Firewall, also free. http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Ker... Have you updated your motherboard chipset drivers and your video card drivers to the latest versions? Reply: (edit)Because game auto detection schemes absolutely suck. Call of Duty 2 for example didn't seem to think my PC consisting of an Athlon 64 3000, 2GB of RAM, and a 7800GT couldn't handle the game at high settings. I giggled. "How many squirrels had to die to make you look fly?!"

Reply: (edit)What is the 12v rail/s amperage on your dd power supply? If the amperage is <20a, then running all those components will cause problem.... Reply: (edit)That's a good question. However, I disagree needing 20A or more. If the PSU truly has at least 18A on the 12V, it should handle all that. The 6600GT isn't that power hungry. Please help survivors of Hurricane Katrina!www.redcross.org

It's true tha the 6600gt is not power hungry, but given 2x HD, 2x optical drive and 4 stick of RAM, you are going to need more than 18a (min req for 6600gt) in order to ensure stability on the system. If he only had 1x HD 1x optical drive and 2 stick of RAM, then 18a on 12v rail is enough for it... Reply: (edit)Unfortunately I can't find specific down to the rail power consumption of various components, so we're gonna have to go by wattage only. Trying to add this up to give an accurate idea... Pentium 4 = 100W RAM = 10W per gig = 13W Video card = 40W Optical drives = 25W x2 Hard drives = 23W x2 Fans = 6W Motherboard = 75W Total wattage = 330W * 1.3 for some overhead for efficiency and error margins of power estimates above = 430W Reputable manufacturers of 430W PSU's put 18A on the 12V rail routinely. So to say you need at least 20A is innacurate. http://images10.newegg.com/NeweggIm... Granted, genuinely more is better, but we're talking mininum here. Reply: (edit)http://www.journeysystems.com/power... I think this work better here =) If you really want to talk about absolute min here, the indian guy the blow Aopen 6600gt with his mightly VIP 300 watt 15a on 12v rail and single HD + single optical drive is a good example there... So having 18a (3a difference) on 12v rail with extra HD + optical drive + more RAM stick than his is close to the "blown zone"... Reply: (edit)Funny...I put all his info in and I got a recommended min power supply. It came out as 344W. :-) So a good 430W, many of which have 18A on the 12V rail, would be more than adequate. "the indian guy the blow Aopen 6600gt with his mightly VIP 300 watt 15a on 12v rail and single HD + single optical drive is a good example there" Excellent example. He was using a generic 300W. Therefore, it probably wasn't even truly 15A on the 12V rail. Pop went the video card! Please help survivors of Hurricane Katrina!www.redcross.org
