Older cards tend to work better with older drivers & the GF4 MX440 is nothing more than a hopped up Geforce2 MX...in other words, your card doesn't support pixel shading:

From AnandTech:

"The GeForce4 MX features no DirectX 8 pixel shaders and only limited support for vertex shaders. The chip does support NVIDIA's Shading Rasterizer (NSR) from the original GeForce2 but that's definitely a step back from the programmable nature of the GeForce3 core ... by purchasing the GeForce4 MX you're actually working against developers bringing DX8 features to the mass market."

From Tom's Hardware:

"'MX,' the code of NVIDIA's value chips has made a big jump. So far, we only knew 'MX' from GeForce2 MX. There never was a GeForce3 MX, but now NVIDIA is introducing the GeForce4 MX line."

"Unfortunately, the 'GeForce4' name isn't very helpful and will cause a lot of confusion. While all GeForce3 cards sport the vertex shader feature ('nfiniteFX'), GeForce4 will not be so straightforward. The effect of this is that GeForce3 cards are actually far more advanced than GeForce4 MX cards! Be aware of that! Based on the GeForce2 MX design, GeForce4 MX has an acceptable background, even though it lacks the new vertex and pixel shaders."

That's probably because the GF4 MX does not support DX8 pixel shaders or higher.

Time to buy a new card.

I have a Geforce4 mx4000 128mb card and it does support pixel shading. My card supported it in the following games. NFS undergound 1 and 2, Doom3, Call of duty and Juiced. Before you start up juiced it asks you what version of shaders you want to use and mine was on v1.4. IT WORKED. But Battlefield 2 does not work YET.

Daywalker.
