hello. I am upgrading this pc from pentium 4 to dual core. it can't be upgraded to core 2 duo so have to do with dual core. but was wondering
which pentium D would be the best for gaming for a reasonable price. I just upgraded the graphics card to a xfx geforce 8800gtx but the cpu is not up to spec for the latest games. as i've heard that most pc games now will be ports from the xbox 360 and require you to have a dual core. thanks for any help

Upgrading the CPU is a total waste of money. In gaming, the video card does the heavy lifting & you have a CPU that's fairly okay.
Do you have a PSU that's adequate enough for that video card?

sorry for the delay Sabertooth.
yes my psu is 650 watts. but like i said if i try to play assassins creed for instance i cant put the graphics up much even 1280x1024 with all eye candy on low. it runs slow. i done a test on "can you run this game" website and it failed my processor saying that i need a dualcore to run it properly. and any future ports from the xbox 360 to pc i would need a dual core to run them. thanks

Although Assassin's Creed requirements are arguably steep--even higher than Crysis'--you should be able to play it on your machine if you don't go crazy on the settings & resolution. As I stated in response #1, the CPU is fairly okay but in no way will it support that game on high resolution with AA & other eye-candy enabled.
If you have to upgrade the CPU, you are going to have to upgrade almost all the other components on your machine. If you are an avid gamer, the cost of the upgrade may be worth it. But, if you are not a huge gamer, the investment may not be that compelling.

thanks Sabertooth for the info. i am an avid gamer.i haven't stopped since i first played the atari. when i bought this sys it cost me an arm/leg and the rest it was 3,600 euro just over 2 years ago with dual 7800gtx 256mb sli.i'm in a bit of a jam here weather to even bother to upgrade it. my thoughts are just sell this rig and buld my own. but been limited by this sys mobo not been able to upgrade to core 2 even makes me wonder about future proofing it a little.even though theres no such thing as future proof the way things are flying forward. cheers anyway bro. going to think about it a bit before i do anything.
