Comment:

I have a poweredge 700 server it has 3 pci-x slots and two regular pc slots , and i need a video card
The question: is pc-x as good as agp for Video ?,
pci-x is back compatible with pci but im not looking back.
I want performance as good as agp or better if possible, my budget is $300USD. on this project, if worth it,
so far a used Matrox Parhelia Model:MGIPH-P256 is my choice
Every opinion will be considered and very much apriciated ,
Thank-U

You have a server, not a gaming system. PCI-X & PCI-Express (PCI-E) are two totally different things. AGP is being phased out in favor of PCI-E x16.

Your best bet would be a standard PCI card...probably an FX5200 128MB/128-bit for about $60 at newegg.com:

Or if you're willing to spend more, look for a FX5500:

Whatever card you get, make sure it uses 128-bit memory...they're roughly 40% faster than those that use 64-bit memory.

Here's a discussion on PCI-X that may help:

FX 5200 are obsolete for gaming, do not waste your money.

"FX 5200 are obsolete for gaming"

I wouldn't say obsolete...they just were never that good to begin with. But the choices in PCI cards are very slim & the majority are worse than the FX5200. Sad to say, there are only a couple that are better

Thank's for the info.
so $300 bucks will not make my server as fast as a AGP GPU card PC with the same specs because there is not a pci-x GPU card avail.
or because the bus. is not as fast as a AGP?
