I've noticed that the computer retailers I buy from are selling PCI-Express graphics cards but none of them sell PCI-express motherboards:

www.ebuyer.com (UK Site)
www.overclockers.co.uk
www.dabs.co.uk
www.order247.co.uk

Are all PCI-Express components now available?? If not, who'd bother to buy a PCI-Express Graphics card this side of Christmas??

I get the feeling that PCI-Express is an Intel Venture??
If so, where does AMD's 64-bit lineup fit in to the grand scheme of things???

Is Intel going to bring out 64-bit processors and let AMD fade into history?

Will/has AMD launch(ed) PCI-express compatible setup?

Or will Intel and AMD just fight it out for the next few years: 'PCI-express 32-bit VS AGP 64-bit'
and the launch of another billion nerd websites solely dedicated to benchesting the two systems and trying to convince the world that one is far superior to the other.

Thanks

I'm not in a rush to upgrade to GeForce 6800 for that very reason. As you mentioned, PCI-E is an Intel standard. However, that does not mean we'll never see AMD mobos with PCI-E slots.

It's not worth jumping on the PCI-e bandwagon for a while. It's not like software publishers are going to stop writing stuff compatible with ordinary 32-bit AGP systems, especially when you see how many hard-working but computer illiterate people spend a small fortune in high-street electrical stores on overpriced PC packages every Christmas.

Surely software publishers wouldn't allienate them for at least 2 years????

I'm also waiting for pci-e to get sorted on the Athlon 64 FX platform and was hoping that a year from now, I'd see something worth buying. May need to wait a bit longer but as stated above, it's just too early to worry about it.

Nice thought though. It may be the last upgrade any of us ever need to make for many years.

thats why i didnt jump onto the 64 bit bandwagon, people are having trouble ironing out the smaller glitches with temps and board compatibility and there arent many applications that really push the 64bit processor to its limits yet. who knows mabey amd will cook up something better than pci-e.
