Comment:

I have a P4 2.6GHz w/ 768mb DDR2700, with a pci 64mb pci GeForce 4 mx440.
I read that the pci bus transfer rate is only 133 mb/s and the agp 8x is closer to that of my system memory wich is close to 2GB/s?
I run games like Medal of Honor(1024x768x32) perfectly no lag ever, but newer games no even close. Just too much lag...would this be a graphics card problem.
Will I notice a difference with an 8x card, or is there somthing else that could be holding me back?
Which card do you suggest...no over kill ..for games like COD2...
(i've seen a lot of adds for GeforceFX 5500 128mb for under $100...are these cards already too slow now that they have released geforce 7's...?)

Thanks!

6600GT ($125-$150). This will give you enough power and won't break the bank.

He can't get a 6600 GT. He has PCI.

Since you have a PCI card then the 5500 is you best bet considering it is pretty much the best PCI card out there.

If you plan to play COD2 then I would suggest an upgrade to AGP or PCI-Express. It is a reasonably demanding game and I doubt any PCI card could handle it well.

he's going to upgrade. I don't know the specs on his board, but I find it hard to believe that a board with a 2.6GHz P4 doesn't have an AGP slot. (at least AGP4x)

I assumed that if his current card is PCI than that is what he has, because why not use the AGP if you have it. But yes if he does have AGP then the 6600 GT is the best choice.
