Hi folks, can someone please explain to me plainly how the PCI bus speed stacks up against 1x, 2x, 4x, and 8x AGP bus speeds? For example, would a 32mb PCI video card be the equivalent of a 32mb 1x AGP card of the same type? Just wondering how they compare so I can buy the best for me. Thanks! and God bless...
Mike

no it wouldn't
the AGP's bandwitdh is much greater!AMD Athlon XP 3000+
512 DDR PC2700
BFGtech Geforce 5900XT (OC)
Core 470mhz
Memory 795mhz
160 gig HD
DVD+/-RW
CD/RW

pcI is the old standard whioch provides a slow rate of data trnasfer compared to that of the AGP bus. AGp 2* is 2* faster than Pci and 4* is 4* faster etc... I would always go for an AGP becase of the speed it has over PCI. You need to have a an AGP slot on your mobo to use this though, it is brown and slightly set back compared to the PCI slots and is at the top of all the PCI slots

When PCI Express arrives later this year, it will offer 16x, compared to 8x for AGP v3, but you'll need to buy a PCI-e card to get those speeds.

I had seen mention of this new pci express stuff. So if I buy a pci express CARD, will it work in my existing pci SLOT? Or, will the new pci-x card need a pci-x board?

No, A pci express graphics card wil only work with a pci express motherboard. A regular pci graphics card will work with a pci express motherboard too because it will be backwards compatible with older pci for a couple of years. No AGP support will be offered though.

hi!
do you know why manufacturers designed the AGP slot? its because for higher graphics needs... for more info, check this site:http://computer.howstuffworks.com/agp.htm
all i understand in this article is that the PCI slots share the motherboard bus and it takes a lot of time for image proccessing that's why the display in the monitor is slower...
