HI,

My son’s pc came with a integrated video card with shared 64mb of ram. I did a small upgrade to a ati 9250 video card and used the Agp slot. I thought it would be simple, put it in turn it on. Well….It shows that I am using the new card but the graphics were still not much difference, so I went into the bios which still showed that I was using the pci as the primary video adapter, so I changed that to the agp/onboard adapter. It also had the option of onboard video memory which read 64 mb, I’m just not sure if that means my old card as it used 64 mb of memory. Do I keep that setting? My Agp slot supports 4x/8x Agp cards and the ati does also but it shows my agp speed set to off and won’t let me put it to 4x or 8x no matter how many times I try . How do I get it to change? I am sorry if I am rambling on, but I am trying to get this going for my son and don’t know to much about computers..Thanks so much.

You MAY need to flash your BIOS to a newer version. Alternatively, you could try clearing your CMOS (by way of jumpers on the motherboard).

Doing this should free up whatever in your BIOS is keeping you locked out of changing your video card preference.

Check through there again though. Look at EVER Y menu. Try calling the support number of the manufacturer (or of the MOBO manufacturer).

You SHOULD be able in the BIOS to tell the system that you want to use an AGP video card and it should deal with it.

You have to disable the onboard video & free up that 64MB of RAM. AGP graphics are MUCH better than onboard, unfortunately, the Radeon 9250 was not a very good choice.

Thanks for the advice, anything is better than what I had (geforce 4mx). How would I disable the onboard video and free up the 64 mb of Ram? I don’t know much about computers but I follow directions very well. Any help would be great. Thanks so much. I am trying to get hold of the mobo manufacturer right now, maybe they can help also. Thanks again.

It's difficult to give advice when you haven't stated what make/model board you have.

You mentioned a setting in the BIOS for 64MB shared onboard video memory...change that setting to "none"
