I am trying to play Call of Duty 4 on my Compaq desktop. The stock graphics card(onboard) won't allow me to run the game because it doesn't use alpha blending. Any ideas on a good quality PCI graphics card that will allow me to run COD:4? I have two open PCI slots. I am looking for a 512MB PCI but couldnt find any that had the right PCI interface.

No AGP slot?

How much are you willing to spend? Don't waste your money on 512MB...it's not worth it for a standard PCI card. Look for a card with 256MB memory @ 128-bit that supports DX9. Here's a couple of possibilities:

I'm not sure about the memory interface on this 6200. When it's not stated, it's *usually* 64-bit:

Go for that 6200 that jam linked. Sure, the GPU on the x1550 board is faster, but you'll never notice it with PCI's 133MB/s of shared bandwidth.

contrary to recent opinions, Id buy a new pc with a mobo that will allow you to upgade to a real card. Oh, that's right...according to saber, the mobo is not important. lol

I did have the 6200 on my old pc, and it played most games great. Played all the CODs, except 4 of course, with this card. Not bad at all for a PCI.

Go for the 6200, I have an 64-bit/AGP version in an old P3 system and it plays most games fine.

Jam, one trick that i learned somewhere. You can tell if a graphics card is 64bit if the RAM installed is in a straight line next to the GPU, If its in an L shape or U shape around the GPU its 128bit or higher.

I dont remember where I got that from but so far it seems to be true for most of the 64bit graphics cards I've seen.
