i recently have been getting into gaming like medal of honor and when i go to play the game the splash screen of the game comes up and then it just disappears. iwas told hat it is because i do not have a dedicated video card as opposed to the integrated one that i have now. so i go to the store to get one and the guy opens my pc up and says he cant add one because there is no slot for the card to go which pissed me off because the comp is only like 9 months old. however the guy said that instead of doing a video card he can plug in a 128mb pci card that will do the same thing. so is this true? will the game play okay with a pci card? and is a 128 pci card the way to go? i know very lil bout pcs so please help me im just dying to play the damn game lol

No, a PCI graphics card is much slower than a AGP graphics card. I would buy another Motherboard which has a AGP port. What motherboard do you currently have?

Hey thanks for replying. i dont know what motherboard i have but i just got off the phone with this computer guy my dad knows and he would be willing to swap my computer for a new one he built and lent me while waiting for my pci card. NOW my question is do I switch??? He said he would swap my hard drive so i dont lose any of my software or programs. my comp is a 2.7ghz intel celeron processor. the one he would be giving me is a amd atholon septor processor at 1.67 ghz. i asked him why does it have less ghz than mine and he said it would still run better than my celeron which he said is junk. so do i agree to swap or should i say no ps the one he lent me is installed with a video card gforce5500 128mb i believe so this would also eleveate the need for a pci card. i mainly use my comp for playing games and surfing the net and downloading music. i keep a couple of documents but not much else other than doing alot of my digital photos on there. so i dont know if im getting screwed or not he said he is actually taking a lil loss on the deal but he says its because my dad has been a good customer. please help me

Celeron =
Intel Celeron 66Mhz (now 100Mhz at higher speeds) 32K (16K Instructions 16K Data) 128K (on chip) .18 28
Million Socket 370 (FC-PGA) 1.5v - 1.65v (CPU speed dependant

=============================================

Amd Athlon =
AMD Sempron 333Mhz 128K (64K Instructions 64K Data) 256K .13 37.5
Million Socket A / 754 1.9v No Longer for general sale

basically the Athlon CPU's are far better than INTEL, for both performance & value.

you are the best liston! would you mind giving that to me in simple terms since i know nothing my main concern is if they both have 5.12 mb i it would seem that the only difference would be the sempron 2400 at 1.67ghz and the celeron at 2.7ghz but it did surprise me that my compaq didnt even have a video card slot and this new one he is letting me swap has a brand new gforce 5500 (i think( video card in it. so does the ghz in these two make a big difference i just dont want to make a big mistake ya know thansk in advance bud

yes there is a significant increase in the 2 CPU's. The Intel u suggest is mainly for the standard office user, where as the Athlon is both office and gamers..it has a much faster chipset to the intel, and even tho it will only run at 1.67Ghz you will see a big improvement in performance.

well i always go for the Athlon as they give more of a punch out of your system, plus the Sempron is the latest AMD chipset so it wud be best to get that one. Erm you might see a slight difference again in performance.

Not to mention the AGP graphics card is way better than the PCI card you mentioned earlier. The PCI bus speed is 33mhz and the AGP bus speed is half of the FSB speed of your processor. Which with the afore mentioned AMD processor with a FSB of 333mhz will make your AGP bus speed 166mhz. Plus custom built PC's allow for greater flexability in upgrading. Mass produced ones, like the Compaq you have, offer less flexability on upgrading as you have already disovered.
At any rate you are getting a bump in performance in terms of what you said you like to do with your computer, ie; gaming and playing music.
All around I think it's a good swap and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Also. Comparing the two processors. The celeron has 128k cache and the AMD that you mentioned has 256k cache. When it comes to gaming. The bigger the cache size the better. Cache is basically high speed memory on the chip die itself and the processor has full access to. P4's typically have 512k cache and these days they have even more than that.

Hope this helps.

i have a geforce 4 pci card it is slow and laggy on the games i turn the grafix settings to the max. i have a p4 at 3.2 gigs overclocked and i put it up against my friend's amd 2800 overclocked and mine turns out to be better(except on the video card cuz he has radion 9800), but mine is one of the best you can build minus the vidoe card, so if you can afford it go custom and get a p4 or amd 64 bit.
