Subject: Paradox??? 3DMark03 ***** or???OS: windows 2000 sp4CPU/Ram: dual p3 1GHz/1GB PC133 EC |
Comment: My computer: Abit VP6 MB/dual PIII 1GHz/1GB compaq PC133 ECC Server RAM (2x512)/ASUS 9280TD Ti4200 128MB 8X(at 4x)/ultra320 SCSI Drives... bla bla bla.../ Windows 2000 SP4 + all updates, DirectX 9.0b/latest drivers/600W Power (just in case, everything works on 300W)/... Can someone explain this to me? When I run 3DMark03 on my PC everything is very slow, in "Wings of Fury" I get 41(max)-7(min) FPS, in "Battle of Proxycon" 3-1 FPS, in "Troll's Lair" 4-0 FPS and my total score is around 300. Now, if I change 3DMark03's settings, going anywhere from 320/200 to 1600/1200, using anisotropy or not, and everything else, I still get exactly the same FPS and total score! WTF? But!!! I just finished playing Max Payne 2, I had almost all the settings set on high in the game with the resolution of 1280/1024, and the game ran very well (very high FPS). Before that I was playing Medal of Honor (Allied Assault), it was running great as well! I never had any problem with my computer since I build it like 3 years ago (I put my new video card 8 months ago), all the games always ran/run very well on it. After all the testing with 3DMark03 I've decided 3DMark suck, and then I ran Farb benchmark (http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=/demos/groups/farb-rausch/fr-025-final2.zip) and I see the same s***! I have the same score/fps at any resolution/settings I run it :*( But unlike 3DMark03 I have grate FPS at any FARB demoes. What is going on??? This is not a problem, I am just curious. I've been fixing/... computers for over 15 years and never seen anything like it. If someone have any ideas let me know. Thanks.

Reply: (edit)the 3D mark 2003 demos ar optimized to work well with directx9 cards and your card is a directx8.1 card.thats the only explanation i can come up with

Reply: (edit)Thanks for reply. This is a good idea, but directx9 is backward compatible! Does 3dm03 only work with dx9? I will run older 3D mark version, and post the results.

Reply: (edit)3DMark 2003 will only work with DirectX 9 installed. You should also know that there are settings you can change for the demo option. I ran it on my Radeon 9700 Pro and was getting 1 FPS in some places which is obviously wrong. I then edited the settings for the demo and was getting 40 FPS in the same part. I haven't used this application for a while so I can't remember what I did.

Reply: (edit)You can use a non DX9 card in 3DMark2003 but as it is optimised for DX9 you won't score well. Make sure you have AA and AF off and everything else set to performance. Check the futuremark website to see how other people with your graphics cards have performed.
