Hello guys,
I overclocked my gpu core clock from 375Mhz to 422Mhz. I left the memory clock at 1000Mhz.
I wanted your opinion about how safe this is. The temperature does not excede 69C, which is the same as without overclocking, and the core is at 350Mhz during normal 2d use.
How safe do you think this is for about 2-3 hours of gaming a day.
Thanks in advance,
Sarosh.Sarosh

Lol,
How are you jam? Good to see you still active.Well, atleast I can play games much better now. With this setting I am play Call of Juarez with max detail and shadows turned off. At the default settings it was really very slow.

comon, is it that risky?
Some have overcloked upto 500Mhz, and my temps are under 70C.
Is it really that riskySarosh

I'm just kidding about starting a fire. But with your reputation with video cards & PSU's, I suppose it is a possibility...lol
As you were told "way back when", the 6800XT is not much better than the 6600GT it replaced...it's close enough to be called a tie. The "XT" in the model number should be a dead give away to it's performance. nVidia uses XT for it's lower end versions in a series. ATI on the other hand, uses XT for it's higher end versions in a series.
"what (XT) means: in ATI language, XT means xtreme edition. It always comes with high end cards such 1900XT or 1800XT etc... but in nVidia side, the XT means crippled budget card, lower pipeline unit, lower gpu clock and memory to get the price of the card down"
(I cleaned up the above clip...it was taken from the following article but there were numerous mispellings, typos & poor punctuation):

The 6800XT only has 8 pipelines & 4 shaders. The plain vanilla 6800 has 12 pipelines & 5 shaders. The 6600GT has 8 piplines & 4 shaders, plus it uses GDDR3 memory. Your 6800XT probably has GDDR2. And if the default core clock on your card was 375MHz, it was already factory overclocked because 325MHz is the reference core clock.
If you can, post a link that shows a 6800XT overclocked to 500MHz. You may find one or two, but it's definitely the exception, not the rule. 400-450MHz is much more reasonable. If you think you can hit 500MHz, go for it!

Hi Jam,
I was aware that the 6800XT was not much better than the 6600GT, but does that mean I should not buy it?
The 6800XT cost me only 7$ more than the 6600GT, and for 7$ more I get 128mb extra ddr3 ram, I can enable textures at max detail, which option was simply not available in the 128mb 6600gt.BTW, the core is only overclocked during gaming right? During normal windows use the core switches back to 350Mhz.
