Comment: Hi guys, Just a question and any help or advice would be most appreciated. I have a wireless netowrk and trying to run Wolfenstein ET on the 2 laptops. the laptops are recently purchased and have no problems running the game alone. but I cant seem to run them together, heres the problem: Laptop_1 joins a server and runs perfectly But as soon as Laptop_2 tries to join the same or any other server, then it interferes with Laptop_1 which eventually causes it to disconnect from the server. One of my mate did mention that it could be the wireless bandwidth causing the problem. So I tried connecting laptop_1 to the router via a crossover cable whilst Laptop_2 is still connected via wireless. but this didnt help. Any suggestions? Thank you Kind regards Del

Reply: (edit)Do you have a NAT router? NATs work best for client-server applications but many games are written as peer-to-peer and NAT doesn't like that. It works with the first connection to the game server but the 2nd client causes the game server to send what looks like "unrequested packets" to the router which dumps them. The game server interprets this as a disconnect and logs you out. Check out this page as a start: http://www.u.arizona.edu/~trw/games/nat.htm

Reply: (edit)Hi OrionCA, I am not sure whether I am using a NAT router but it s Netgear DG8424M (wireless) or something, not sure whether this is the correct model?? But anyway thanks for the link, i have read it and the solutions look very promising, I am unable to try it out yet as I am away from home. I will do tomorrow (19/04/04). And will post a reply to let you and other people know whether it helps. Cheers mate very much appreciated. all the best

Reply: (edit)Hi orion. I read over the link you gave me and tried the solutions given there. forwarding the Port numbers to the laptops. however, I am still unable to play on the same server, the connection just gets interrupted. I went into the Modem/router settings and found a log stating that "UDP/TCP packet dropped". Is there any other way round this? thank you regards Del

Reply: (edit)I dont know whether this would help, but here it is anyways: If you are trying to play the game on LAN ( I assume one laptop is connected to the server through a router), check up the and ensure that the network protocol 'IPX' is also included in the list of network protocols used by the computer. best of luck Rajiv
