I posted a while ago re: low framerate in Day of Defeat and other Halflife mods. Nothing people suggested worked (but thanks for trying :D). I have noticed that my data transfer rate in-game seems to be lacking severely. Using Net_graph 1 (HL console) I see IN: 1.2k/s, OUT: 0.6k/s. I believe these values should be about twice as high! Any idea how to increase them without buying new hardware?

Machine specs: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=bph07577&locale=en_US&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=70989&prodTypeId=12454

(sorry - it's one of THOSE machines...)

I also have Comcast digital cable (1+ MB connection).
I apologise if this post isn't quite as coherent as it could be - I've been trying things all night!

Ok, don't use net_graph 1. Use net_graph 3..not exactly sure what the 1.2k/s etc is, but it's not the internet connection..i get rates like that and I get about 50-70fps, along with a nice 20-40 ping sometimes.

tell me what your choke is, it shouldn't be any higher than 1-2....

Something else that would help a lot is WHAT framerate are you getting.

If you have stock video card, you shouldn't be getting anything impressive.

Tried netgraph 3. Gave my fps as 4, loss at 70 and choke at between 1 and 7. (Mainly around 6 I think). I assume that's not good. Any ideas what's causing that?

Incidentally that was using HalfLife - right now I get timed out every time I try to play Day of Defeat through Steam.

Same probs with both games though, I assume!

The catch is, DoD used to work ok a while back - nothing fancy, but at least a PLAYABLE framerate. The only thing I've done with hardware was after the problem started - and that was to upgrade to a cable modem.
