Comment: I have like 15 old games that wont work anymore. (im using Windows XP right now) cammand and Conquer 1, red alert heroes age of empires warcraft ext I keep getting an error message saying it cant run on MS DOS or other windows applications. on the top it says 16 Bit (if that helps). If anyone knows how i can still play these oldies without buying some old computer or switching windows can you tell me? maybe a program or something... I blow up fast like Ophra's weight I fluctuate, dont hate

Reply: (edit)Google the exact error message there is an executable you can run to patch Windows. Try switching your desktop to 16 bit as well. If I remember correctly it says something about the ms-dos subsystem and there is a patch from Microsoft or similar, but I also can't remember if I was successful in getting it to work either, or whether the instance was from an older game like yours.

Reply: (edit)These were Dos Games. You need an emulator for it to work properly under Win XP. You need DosBox to run the game. Download it from here, you need the Windows version: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/downl... Install, read the readme file and enjoy! Some of them were old Windows game. Try the compatibility mode depending to the game requirements (ie. Windows 95 or 98) Dip Electronic Eng Dip Computing & IT BSc Software EngCore2 Duo 6420 Gigabyte 965P-S3 2x1GB DDR667 7900GS 256DDR3 OC Seagate 160/250GB SATA3 SB Audigy4 19" 5ms 4:3 Dell LCD

Reply: (edit)For C&C 1: is it c&c win95 version? if so browse the cd and choose windows 95 compatability for all .exe's you can find on the cd. you might have to do each one individually as for some reason selecting and changing them all at once doesnt work. Just make sure to get the exe's changed for the autorun and setup, install etc. then download this: ftp://ftp.westwood.com/pub/ccgold/CCGOLDXPPATCH.ZIP For Red Alert: make all exe's on install disk: win95 compatible make all exe's in install dir: win95 compatible Download C&CRA_Patch.zip extract the dll from c&cra_patch to install directory
