Comment:

I want to play Red Faction on my Vista-based system. The only reason I'm not using XP is because the install disc wouldn't boot so I couldn't install it when I built the system.

Anyway, the game works, but is unbearable to play due to the fact that every single polygon on the screen flickers with every little movement.

This is the only game where I've had this trouble on Vista.

My graphics card is an XFX GeForce 8600GTS.

Any help on how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Col

Did you try compatibility mode?

Yes, with several different combinations of settings.

I have tried:
- Compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2
- Compatibility mode for Windows 2000
- Disable visual themes
- Disable desktop composition
- Run as administrator

All in several different combinations, but probably not in every combination possible.

Hey, this used to happen with me on counter strike source, bf2, bf2142, and crysis on my vista build (and my xp build too)

Try these things:

1. Update your video card drivers (this worked for me)
or
2. Buy a new video card (also worked for me hehe)
or
3. Use an older video card (or an older driver if the new drivers dont work) as new cards and their drivers can be very buggy and are more likely to give you glitches. (i havent tried this)

Go to
http://purefaction.org/
and download the "Pure Faction" file from the second link given. This is supposed to be an anti-cheat patch but has several other features such as:

"Fix the issue with new Nvidia graphics cards (tested on 8600, 8800gts, 8800gt, 8800gtx)."

I have a 8800gt and had the exactly same problem, this patch fixed it completely. Good luck!
